I think I am going to take a break from this group for a while, I can't get myself thinking about biking issues when it's 10 freaking degrees below zero..... I'm going to go take a break from the group, if you want to keep in touch then PM me, and we can talk, otherwise, I'll see ya in a few months, when the weather warms up, and I can get thinking about bicycles again.....

Wog, when I was considering leaving the forum a couple of months ago, you discouraged me from doing so. I'm now returning the favor. Now is the time to think about bikes. Just as the gardener sitting at his dining room table in snow-covered Toronto, Niagra, or Elverson ponders the seed catalogs as the January wind whistles outside, so the cyclist thinks of the upcoming season, what he did last year and what he will do this year. Don't leave as the fun is starting!

One of my first posts to Bike Forums when I started in August was to the Winter Cycling Forums about cycling goggles. In fact macteacher of Toronto and I have exchanged correspondence on that subject beginning back then. Now it was 18 F (-8 C) this morning and my goggles worked fine. I still would not mind reading a summer cycling forum this winter though ;-)

Don't wonder far. Maybe you can watch a few Leafs game and realize this forum isn't so bad. But, then again maybe you can work in as a goalie for the Leafs for awhile.

Hi Boston - Nice to meet you... OK since I am riding this winter so far (and warm as toast I might add) what prey tell are cycing goggles and why should I buy them?? cause if the temp falls below low 30s I may be in big trouble here... so doIneed googles? How much?where do I get them...etc

OK Wog- Maybe stick around for the fun reading... ? We will miss you. I think I need to stay close or I'lll forget how much I like to ride.. For me the riding is still hard work - fun but hard. So I think the more I get connected to our biking friends the better off I will be.So ride or no ride..I remain here. IF you go.... we will miss you!! Hury back when it warms up!!

Likewise, I'm glad to meet you. I try to correspond with the Boston Commuters I know of on Bike Forums, but Bostonians are known for being aloof, so I'm pleased to meet a Southern commuter.

I wear (need) eyeglasses to ride. Below about 35 degrees, I find that the wind makes my eyes sore, and even worse causes them to tear. However, when I wear goggles to deflect the cold wind, the moist exhaled air causes the googles and the eyeglasses to fog, and below about 20 degrees they even frost up. Many correspondents to BF since I have been posting, even in August of this summer, have discussed this problem. Here is a sample thread I have participated in on the subject, that expresses most of the opinions I have read, including my own, and IMO, the best solution:

I just googled Atlanta weather and your current temp is 54 degrees. On Saturday, we had a cold snap down to 18 degrees. My coldest ride was -3. Have you had problems with winter riding? BF is a great source for solutions.

Hi Jim - I grew up in Boston so I am a Semi-Southerner.... And it does get cold - like low 30s... I rode in that the other day with my Bacalava and glasses- no fogging I was happy as a clam! And yes the next day was a bit warmer...40s to 50s so not bad at all!!

I do nto commute on abike - rather ona plane (Work in Chicago during the week). Still nice to meet you - we are a happy litlle group over here so stop by often...

Thanks for your reply; I read this forum regularly, as well as about a dozen others. Speaking of less than ideal weather, after reading the Forums for a few months, last week I decided to try riding in the rain on my beater mountain bike, something I've studiously avoided for years. This morning the region on Doppler is solid green; it's 45 degrees and a near headwind of 28 mph. It's a good day for my shakedown cruise ;-)

That's actually the plan, check in once a week. Some of these groups can be a terrible time sink....
