My early Christmas present.
A few weeks back I went with my husband to one of the LBSes in the area to have his bike fitted. While I was wandering around I noticed that they had a 2008 Trek Madone WSD 4.5 in my size. I had been wanting a road bike for a little while and had even test ridden a few at another LBS including a WSD Madone. I really liked the Trek, but just couldn't justify the price (it was a higher level model 5.something).
When my husband was finishing up with his fitting, I pointed out the 4.5 to him. While he was paying he asked the clerk if they ever negotiated on last year models. The guy replied that they did, but usually not until late November or December. He offered to take my name and number though and said that he'd call if his boss decided to work on the price.
Days and weeks went by, and I pretty much forgot about the bike, figuring they had sold it, or the guy lost my number or whatever. Low and behold though, last week while we were on vacation I get a call from the bike shop. It's my new favorite LBS employee with the good news that the owner is ready to deal. We came to an agreement and I had him put the bike on hold for me.
Today after work I finally got the chance to get over to the shop and pick up my new bike. The shop owner was there and did a great job getting me fit. I love this bike and can't wait to take it on a nice long ride this weekend.
Here's a pic (I know it's supposed to be against a garage door, but it was dark by the time I got home).
And here's the specs for the 2008 model.

Dead Sexy! That bike is sweet. I love the color. Congrats on the early Christmas gift. I went to a Performance bike shop for the first time today, I tell you I could have bought 3 or 4 new bikes if I had the $.

Wow! It's going to be a very merry Christmas! Now--the key question--is he going to make you wait until Christmas to ride it?

Thanks for the complements all. I love the color too. I guess I'm fortunate that the lowest priced WSD Madone is also one of the best looking (in my humble opinion anyway ).
I took it for a short spin this morning to get used to the clipless pedals and it rides like a dream. Tomorrow I'll go for a bit longer ride out on one of the local trails and take my camera - maybe get some better pictures of it.

I love how the lines on the bike flow. That frame is not only a great piece of engineering, but a work of art

Took the new bike out for a 20 miler this morning. It's going to be tough to get back on the commuter tomorrow. It shifts so smoothly and accelerates effortlessly. In one section that I usually average 16-17 mph, I was holding 22-23 mph. Unfortunately I forgot my camera, but I have the feeling that I'll have many many rides in the future with this beauty to get some good shots.
