I Felt Mean Today!

Gina had some business to take care of so I it the trail alone. It's cool when you get a chance to open up and kick some arse. I start at mid trail and head north inland. Then back to the coast after a 10 mile warmup. On the way to the coast it was BREEZY with a capitol B. Trees were blowing and leaves were fluttering, not quite a wind but very breezy.

As I head back to the coast, I'm about 20 miles into my ride when a guy goes flying by me. Hey, he's a 'skinny', lets have some fun.:thumb:....He's flying so I pick up the pace and give chase. He's really flying and pulling away but I lose him somewhere. I'm thinking I must not be warmed up cause I can't catch the guy. He's riding so fast that I start to think he's riding another mile and cutting off or he's just really good and puttin' the spank on me.

So he's gone but I continue with my tail bewtween my legs, oh well I tried! So I stop for a brief second to refill my second bottle at a small park about 15 miles form the coast. As I continue on, I look back and THERE HE IS!..How in the world did he get behind me? So now it's on again!:D

I pick up the pace as he rides by. He gets about 20 yards ahead but I say ,"not this time buddy!". I watch as he speeds off but then I realize he's hit the wind and switched to an easier gear for "the spin". Dude, you're in Mr. Beanzville now! The wind is my friend! I switch to a harder gear catch and ride by the guy. He quickly takes my wheel. "oh you cheeser!" I don't take a wheel when I'm in the middle of a challenge. You either beat me or I beat you, not by sucking wheel.

I see what his plan is so I slow my pace so that he rides by. And sure enough he does as he looks me in the eye and gives a big cheesy smile thinking I'm done. But I've got a plan! I hang back about 40 yards knowing he's prolly celebrating at this point. But I watch as we hit the small inclines under the underpasses. He can't climb in the wind. Every pass I gain an easy 15 yards on him. Now I know he's mine. So I continue to play the game as I know there is a short climb down the way. Ha! The Clyde planning the pass on the skinny at the climb!:thumb:

So I pick up the pace and blow by his arse on the climb WITH A SMILE. I look back at the top of the 30 yard climb and he's struggling bigtime! Now I'm ahead and I intentionally look back to see where he as the same way he did when he was ahead. I continue to push hard knowing he's strong. I go back and forth, I mash then I spin, I spin, then I mash. I'm really putting out and now my lower back is talking to me. At one point I feel like my quad wanted to cramp but I back off slightly so the feeling goes away.

I look back and he's creeping up again. No you don't sucker so I put it on even harder. I'll puke before I let you catch me! At this point I know we are 3 miles from the coast and he's not gaining but I continue to look back at him. Now I'm 40 yards ahead, then 50, then 60, he's fading fast now! So I stomp on it even more. He's done! I'm in pain but heck, that's what a workout should feel like!

I quickly turn around at the coast and head back. At this point, he's about a 1/4 mile behind. As I approach him riding the opposite direction, he looks right a me and smiles the big cheese again! That's cool, I gave him the thumbsup knowing we both got in a good one! But this time, the Clyde won!:thumb:

At the end of the 60 miler, I was still feeling mean! I set up my little camera on the timer and did some poser shots. I felt good so I thew in some little sprints too for extra mileage!:D

You da man!

dbikingman 12-13-08 08:21 PM

The meaner beaner toyed with the poor skinny. It is nice that he appreciated the effort.

Mr. Beanz 12-13-08 08:42 PM

Yup! I think the skinnies are sometimes surprised by us clydes! I've seen some real fast clydes!:thumb:

I'm beginning to think I have a big nose, or small glasses!:roflmao2:

djnzlab1 12-13-08 08:57 PM

That'll Teach them

Hey,
Those skinny ones can't handle the distance+hills for long, no glycogen stores.:roflmao2:..Way to make him suffer....

You can get some "solar shields" from wal-mart, they would make pinocchio's nose look small. I wore then for fishing for about 2 years, my wife was mortified lol. They are the huge glasses with the lens on the side of the glasses as well as front aka cataracts glasses.

JoelS 12-13-08 09:46 PM

Sounds like you had a fun ride! Well done.

txvintage 12-14-08 12:22 AM

Tx doesn't climb well, yet.

Great story Beanz reminds me of a ride this past summer. I came up on a group last year all decked out in team kit everyone on a top of line Cerevelo man they looked cool. Well I got up to the guy last in line and started shooting the breeze. Turns out they are on a training ride and not from the area. I must of looked like a joke to them, Bert and Ernie jersey rocking it on my aluminum $1500 bike. After about 5 minutes the guy asks to out so I move over, he goes up front, a few seconds later I can hear the gears move in unison so I get ready. Big ring around 17 on the flat they kick it into a pace line. Thing is I know the route and there's a nasty little climb only about 200y but at about 14%. So I cheated a little, sucked that paceline for about 4k, dropped to 23 on back onto the 34 and popped out, spun past them on the climb, got to the top back into big ring and hammer. Turn around and gave a little wave. All 220lbs of me smiling like a silly b**tard. Of coarse they could have been near the end of a training ride but I just finished 100k so I was happy anyway.

I can relate!:D...Seems these guys are always shocked when we keep up! Most of the time, it's their buds thtat drop!:thumb:

Another thread in which you can cut the testosterone with a multi-tool. :)

EasyEd 12-14-08 10:54 AM

Or a chainsaw...:roflmao2: But seriously, that does sound like fun.

Hmmm, well let me see! What is more entertaining, a thread filled with testosterone that might entertain atleast a few of the readers or someone who doesn't start threads in this forum and wastes their time and effort criticizing others?

If I thought riding my bike to the market, buying 3 lemons, then carrying them home in my handlebar basket would entertain others, I'd post about it!:thumb:

Like they say, if you don't like it, don't read it.

Now ask yourself, "have I ever seen Mr. Beanz post negative vibes in any of my threads? Even if he didn't like the thread?".

jesspal 12-14-08 07:30 PM

I was very entertained.

My new nickname for you is Clyde Armstrong.

StephenH 12-14-08 09:07 PM

"The wind is my friend!"

I've noticed this. Actually, the wind is not my friend, it just hates me less than it hates thin people. Ditto with little hills. People riding my speed with the wind or on the level, I'll pass 'em if we turn into the wind or hit a little hill.

Not a criticism, just an observation. :p

No biggie, just that everyone rides and enjoys different aspects of riding. Just not sure why someone would leave comments that don't seem "called for" in someone's thread if it weren't to their taste. I personaly enjoy all cycling. Long distance, fast paced rides, group rides, riding with the wife, riding to the store, riding at night, listening to myh heartbeat when it's quiet, feeling my body at one with the machine while climbing for hours, trying to catch another rider, trying to keep up with another rider that drops me, stopping to take a quick pic, holding back for the new rider, slowing m pace on group rides to help out the newb that would otherwise be lost. Heck, I would really love touring but don't have the time or money for the week long rides.

Not sure but I walmost bet my cycling habits and experiences are far more enjoyable that many can imagine. Unless you try and succeed on dropping other competitive riders, one may not undersand the joy. One may not understand the joy in doing a 10,000 ft climb and dropping riders half your weight.

Well unlike most, I take on challenges that aren't to my advantage. Like most of you here or they wouldn't be riding a bike. I succeed in kicking some arse from time to time, so I enjoy the moment! If others can't understand that, then they need to experience more aspects of cycling. Then maybe , we would relate a litle more and better!:thumb:

Not just directed at you but others that feel the same while not undersanding my joy of the sport!;)
