I got a Schwinn Le Tour about a month ago. Got a good week and half out of riding it, and loved ever second. A week and a half ago one of my brake levers broke. I was okay with it. Its a 20+ year old bike. I bought new ones, That I love, got them on my bike, nice new handlebar wrap on, and I got out for a test ride, and I bend a wheel. Again no to made, its the original wheel, kinda expected after 20 years, but man it killin me not being able to get on the bike and go for a ride. I love it so much and I am addicted already. Plus being a college student I dont have the money to drop on new wheels. Did find some nice Weinmann wheels for a little more than $100 that I like.

There's and old saying about "nothing is as expensive as a cheap (or free) bike."

Been there and keep doing that though.
With all the money invested in "fixing" my wonderful bargains (I've actually plotted this out)...I could have easily bought a new LHT or Randonee and Kitted them out properly for touring.

Were the wheels $100 for the pair? Are they used or new? I got a brand new Weinmann rear wheel for my bike for less than $50 at my LBS.

The wheels I mentioned are a set. The ones you show txvintage look promising. Will they work on my old ten speed, sorry for the newb question.

At least this happened during the winter. I was planing on disassembling my bike anyway to clean and then paint it.

Either wheel set will work with your bike. I did realize that you were talking about a Schwinn. some of the older Schwinns had some 26 inch wheels. The seller has both sizes.Check your tire size and check the eBay listing. With shipping at 19.99 for the pair, you are out $80.00 total for the set. Pretty good deal all in all.

Caveat Emptor (sp?)

Am I missing something... are those steel wheels? Any LBS can order a pair of steel wheels for that price... and much stronger aluminum wheels for about $10 more. Even the ebay seller you linked has another auction for a set of double wall alloy wheels for $80.

To the OP: if you are replacing the wheels you should see if you can fit 700c inplace of the 27" - much wider variety of tires and rims available. 700c wheels will fit if you can move the brake pads down 4mm on the front and rear brakes. Then you can also run wider tires if you wish.

Also, almost any bargain wheelset you get will be a machine built pair and the spokes are generally not tensioned or stress-relieved properly... so keep an eye on spoke tension and learn to true and tension wheels.

So basically I should go to my LBS and talk to them, and I will probably get some better wheels for the Same or a little more $$.
