Do other Clydes get nicknames?

I began riding in early November of this year after a 18 month absence and a gain of 35 pounds. I began at 260, currently down to 250 and counting. Since the weather here is cool to cold I have been wearing my bright yellow jacket. Well, my wife has now nicknamed me "big bird". I am used to the big or fat jokes, but sometimes it digs in and hurts because I am trying so hard to lose the pounds. I guess I should just go with it and maybe when I venture close to 200 again I can use the Big Bird nick to share with others that they too can lose weight cycling.

Sasquatch.
It's a nickname I don't mind at all. I'm 6' 6", weigh between 240 and 250 (depending on the season), and I'm really hairy. Sure, I look like Sasquatch... but Sasquatch is smart and fast enough that no one can catch him.

I made the mistake of signing a newsgroup post "Historian, Pennsylvania State Chess Federation" years ago, and I was mocked in many threads as "The Historian", with a capital "T". After a couple of years, I switched to the screen name The Historian just to annoy folks on the chess groups. Not that I need help doing it, mind you.

In the past I've had friends who have called me the Neilster, but that hasn't been recently. I've never been called "big guy" or any of the other friendly terms folks use - I must have been too proper/modest/well-spoken/stuffy for people to feel comfortable using it with me.

I guess this spring or summer when I am wearing my short sleeve jersey they will have to come up with a new nick. I have to admit lycra on a big guy never makes a good fit.

I've always been Big Guy. Even when I was 220Lbs, about 80lbs lighter then what I am now. There usually shocked when they find out how heavy I really am.

OK so I am single and who am i to speak- But a fat nickname from your wife???!!!WTF!!!And I am really really sensitive ( So maybe I am overreacting) but....what in the world is she thinking??? No one likes to be called Big anything...unless she is calling you Big Guy in a fun way). Sorry but I thnk it's mean and yucky of her. What if you call her fat? Anyhoo - Maybe you could tell her how you feel..(oh and don't call her fat...that would be a egregious offense.)

Anyone calls me big... i would cry. I have been called skinny before. It's really a joke - and they meant to comment on how much weight I have lost..but even that bugs me some -since they really are saying WOW Have you lost a ton of weight - man were you fat....

OK that's enuff....

My hubby used to call me "Gorda" (Portuguese for "Fat girl") when I was thin. Then I gained weight and now he calls me "Gordinha" (Portuguese for "pudgy girl"). I want him to call me "magrinha" which means "skinny girl" but I think it's a lot of miles away...

I don't hold it against him. I hope no one else does either.

Hmmmm... I would have trouble with that - but what is important is how you feel so if you are happy that's all that counts. Plus you know him, know his spirit and his heart- I think it's really about what someone's true intentions are. If his intention is to show you love and be supportive-then it does not matter what he calls you - He most likely thinks he is showing you love. So if you don't mind- then that is what truly counts.

But here the OP said he did mind - and so I think that is what I find offensive. That his wife calls him a name that hurts him - that's when I think you should speak up or at least that's what i found hard to take. In your case- if you don't mind then your husband is not hurting you....

Is your wife overweight also? She may subconsiously want you to fail at losing weight, if she's overweight herself.

If your goal is to lose weight, try not to let it get to you. Use the nickname as a motivational tool to reach your goal. Just remember.....if losing weight were easy, everyone would be skinny.

I used to run an Irish pub in Germany, and was often called "The Big Dog". The Stoutdog came from the big dog always with a guinness stout in my hand. Ten plus years later, I've grown fond of the name.

I couldn't agree more. If it bugs ... he should say so at the top of his lungs.

Of course, I've been at that weight for awhile.

I haven't shaved (at all) for about a week, which means the rest of my beard has grown in. (I had a full beard already, but in an effort to stay warm while riding I've grown in the parts I used to shave.)

A buddy of mine at work called me Neckbeard the Mighty.

My first post!

My nickname is "Couch" because I'm big and soft like a couch. And I let friends sit on my lap when there's no chair space left.

I don't mind the name, but people do tend to mention my size far more often than I would like, but I guess the digs are good, cause it's a motivator to change.

On the street I hear "Big man" a lot, which I don't like very much at all. I don't call you "Black guy" or "Bucktooth" or "Lopsided breasts" why should you call me by my physical characteristics/flaws?

I haven't shaved since mid-September. It looks absolutely terrible, as I'm 19 and still haven't become manly enough to grow a full beard.

I can't shave until the Super Bowl.

Never get drunk and claim the Buffalo Bills are gonna go 10-0 in the season.

All names given due to size and name. I actually use one as a screen name for some sites.

I have nicknames but none related to my size. Those who have tried have been met with equally offensive responsives about their own personal traits, lol.

It helps that no one is perfect, and no one is immune.
