Woke up feeling sick; cured in the saddle

I went to bed Friday night feeling like I was getting sick and I woke feeling the same way. But I was committed to getting out on the street today.

The first ten miles were awful! I was really dragging. Eventually it started clicking and the next 20 were great. The last 8 were into a strong headwind and about got me. I made it though and I am feeling better?

Can exercise beat a cold?

Anyhow, here are some photos from the ride.

This is the officers' quarters at Fort Lowell park. Tucson preserved some of the historic buildings and built a park around it. According to the sign explaining the buildings, they were 42 feet by 42 feet and at the peak of military action at the fort, 3 families lived in the building.

The statue was created to honor the enlisted men who served in the Apache wars in the 1880s and 90s.

Why do people think it is a good idea to put these signs in bike lanes?

And lastly an attempt at an action shot.... I look confused.

It was another beautiful day in the Old Pueblo. The temp was about 70 degrees today, but we have a storm moving in so it won't be so nice this week.

I hope you all had great rides!

low resistance exercise like cycling, will speed up recovery. Especially if you eat a good quantity of food after. Keep in mind exercise increases testosterone especially if you do it for 1-2 hours. Test makes you feel more mighty, helps you heal faster, lowers your sleep requirements, and raises your pain threshould considerably.

Also keep in mind that you will usually feel the worst right when you wake up, and get out of bed. It takes about 2-4 hours to feel better. This is true even if you are not sick. If you pay attention your eyesight will not be as good and maybe more blury for the first 2-4 hours after waking. Your "problem solving" skills are also dumbed down.

THANK YOU very much for the pictures. I especialy like the work signs on the bike lane. :)

The Dr. from Fox News says you should excercise to feel better when you have a cold, but not for the Flu. I think riding does help vs. a cold.

And I thought I was just "not a morning person"... I always feel good by the time I finish my commute. On non-commuting days, yeah, a couple hours of groggy, even with good coffee.

I like the fat tire jersey, I have a pair of fat tire socks that my sister sent me. I got a fatcyclist.com jersey for xmas and it is pretty sweet as well. How does the fat tire jersey fit what size did you get? I wear 3x and it feels a little small, but once i get geared up i feel like a rider and am no longer self concious.

Thanks for the info guys.

Jesspal, I have some FatTire socks too! As far as the jersey goes, I have a XXL and I think it is was a little tighter than most of my other ones. What I really like about it, is its length. it is longer than any of my other jerseys so I don't have to worry about plumber's crack too much.

I agree that is the problem i have with most jerseys, I can deal with the tightness. Afterall they are supposed to be, whether i look good in a tight jersey is a different story. But the length does kill me, I got a great 3x jersey from nashbar that fits perfectly. I think i'm gonna order about 4 more, they were only 19.99

You're riding to get well, close your mouth or you'll catch a bug!:roflmao2:..You see what I did there? Just then? Din'tcha see iiiiit?

Nice pics! I ride when I'm sick. Sometimes these rides turn out to be the best. I can't understand why some rides don't ride cause a friend of a friend at the office has a cold!:p

Wear a compression shirt as a base layer. I have a, err, big problem with pseudogynecomastia, and compression shirts are great for 'smoothing' my appearance. It also helps keep my loose skin in place.

Length is a problem for me too. I'm 6' 1" and largely torso, so most jerseys ride up in front. Twin Six stuff in particular doesn't fit me well.
