Clyde/Athena DL, 2009 Edition

We have our first injuries of 2009:

- Tom Stormcrowe: fractured tailbone, concussion. Out of action at least a month.

- The Historian: muscle strain in his back from digging the Neilmobile out of a snowbank Wednesday. No lifting until this weekend.

Any others?

So far, so good on my end. Hopefully I used up all of my DL time while closing out 08!

I do plenty of paperwork at work and seemed to have developed a hangnail on my thumb that catches on every other sheet of paper. That can make it hard to put on the gloves and/or ride at times!

Temporary Injured Reserve: (small potatoes when compared to other people's injuries)

Not out for a long time, but I've been off the road since Tuesday due to an eye injury. I can ride on my trainer since I don't have to balance. I've been told this is only for one week until the scratch on my cornea heals.

Been there, done that, have the surgical scar to prove it, although I did mine at work.....

You should be in a cast for a week or two, then they take off the cast, check to make sure the surgery hasn't gone septic, take an xray, then after the surgeon checks the X-ray, they rewrap and give it another few weeks. Not much you can do at this stage except enjoy the good drugs the doctors give you (far out man....)

The surgeon will recommend physical therapy after the cast comes off. This is very important, the therapist should be someone who deals with injured athletes, because the ideal is to be able to get back into your exercise program and to be able to return to work as soon as possible.

If you need someone to co-miserate with, just send me a PM or private message, having been there I understand it all.....

Blown out left rotator cuff. Still riding, but can't lift anything (include the arm itself) over my head. Crashed on ice in December.

If this is what bicycling leads to, I'll go back to walking and lifting!

My injury wasn't cycling related, if that's any consolation. Mine's related to contact lens problems.

My injury was from a fall, walking on the ice.

Well, my muscle strain was caused by my bending over. There could have been any number of reasons I was bending over - housework, getting something from my "Amazon" box to package for shipment, clearing off the car, trying to get the Neilmobile out of the snowbank in Elverson - but for whatever reason I was stupid and did it the wrong way.

Alright, so with these guys down we're gonna need everybody to step and get more miles. If we work together as a team, we can get this done.

I'm jsut practicing my pep talks!

Ever see the M*A*S*H episode in which Frank Burns gets a Purple Heart for a wound from a "shell fragment?" It was a shell fragment in his eye from a hardboiled egg.

Somehow I wrenched my back while I was at work a few weeks ago and it knocked me off the bike for about a week. Anyways its a lot better now and went for my first ride this morning in 41 deg. temps wearing shorts and a sweat jacket. Back was good, but it was a little too cold for what little I had on.
