My Saturday Icy "Ride Of Death" (w/pics!)

I haven't been outdoors on my bike since November and I couldn't take it any more! Plus I bought myself a nice Digital SLR and I've been wanting to get out and take some pictures. This is my first winter in Ohio. I packed up my camera equipment and threw my neglected 10 year old MTB that's never even had a tune up in the back of the SUV and went to the bike trail that I ride on a regular basis in nice weather. It was 19F when I got on the bike. There were a few other people out walking around but I didn't see any other bikes. I was out for about an hour and only rode about 6 miles because I was mostly just wanting to play around with the camera. Had a blast! I dang near killed myself on a large patch of ice on the way back but somehow managed to slide across it sideways and keep myself and the bike upright. Traction was satisfactory as long as I kept on the snow but that wasn't always an option.

Here's the patch of ice that just about did me in!

Yeah, way to get out. Keep it up, you'll get used to it!

I like your closeup of the twig with ice.

When I'm living in a northern climate, I have to get out and about during winter or I get cabin fever. Think Jack Nickolson in the Shining. Redrum! Redrum!

I have a Garmin Edge 305 on my road bike but I don't use my mountain bike enough right now to justify buying another mount for it.

This was at Three Creeks Park in Groveport. I moved here from the Sacramento area in August so this is definitely not the weather I'm used to.
