Riding Makes Me Wet..Who Else Rode Today?

25 miles in the rain. It was actually pretty fun riding the knobbies in the water! It rained the entire time on the ride in Orange County. When I got home Gina said it hadn't rained a drop. Darn, I shoulda rode around home!..Oh well it was fun!

Gotta love them knobbies!

I rode today. 54 miles. 3800 feet. I don't think that the spike at 20% grade is a mistake. Here's the profile:

The temperature reached over 40 degrees today, and I rode for the first time in five weeks. I did 11 miles on one of my local routes. I was planning on a 25 mile ride, but I backed off when I realized I was very out of shape - 40 pounds heavier than when I was riding regularly in 2007, and next to no riding this winter. I had to pull out the 'fat' bibs and long-sleeve jersey, and ride with my jacket open because it no longer closes.

Oddly enough, even though I recognized I was slower, I didn't have greater problems on the climbs than I had previously. I climbed my bete noir the hill on Lucas Road without stopping. That was only the biggest surprise. I wonder if - and if so, how - my leg muscles kept much of their conditioning despite my slacking off on the exercise?

Ice was melting everywhere, and the little streams and runs that feed into French Creek filled the air with the sound of splashing water. I had to ride around some ponding on Seven Stars Road, some ice and snow patches on Mill Road, and I dismounted to cross the Kennedy covered bridge and the steel-grate bridge on Pughtown Road. Aside from that, and my failure to charge my headlight, requiring me to use my backup, it was a good ride. Including shopping for dinner - this was a grocery trip - and the inevitable photographs, I was out less than an hour and a half, which is pretty good for the amount of climbing I had.

That's the cool thing about cycling. Once you conquer an obstacle, you can almost always do it from that point on! Then it's all about the ol saying "never gets easier, you just go faster". or "slower" in some cases. I think we've all been there!

Just proves one has developed as a cyclist!

Squeaked out a 6 mile ride, the greenbelt was quit icy still and the 23's were not quite up the task. It was nice to get out though.

I wonder if it's perspiration or inspiration. Is it that the muscles kept their strength, or that I was more likely to push them further?

We have the same weather pattern, hit 7℃ today, due to the amount of ice about though, I thought it best to do todays 7.5km on the trainer. Spent the morning clearing snow off the catch basin beside the driveway, so that the water has somewhere to go. Otherwise we get an ice rink there, when it cools off again. Supposed to be colder tomorrow and then warm up again, before heading back into winter at the end of the week.

Nice thing about the trainer, you can decide where the hills are and how steep they are, just dial up the resistance and down-shift.

Wfie and I rode 16 easy miles today. No rain, probably 50 degrees. Planning a longer, solo ride tomorrow.

I did a nice easy ride of 8.5 miles of low rolling hills this morning. The weather was good, light winds and mid 50's for the temp.

I can't post those pics here, I'd be banned FERSHER!!...A couple of years ago I posted a pic of Gina wearing my favorite tanktop. I had talked her into wearing on a ride to eliminate some tanlines. It was in at another forum where some of the others kept a close eye on me! I was almost banned for it eventhough several of the others had posted much more revealing material, thanks to the tattle tales. I take alot of heat sometimes!

Most PA trails are still poor choices for bikes. Here the Schuylkill and Perkiomen are snow-covered. The Great Allegheny Passage and Montour Trails near Pittsburgh are covered with ice.

Our roads are OK, if you keep away from the shoulder and don't mind getting gritty with salt spray.

Rode local, couple laps around Bonelli and it was dry most of the day.. I check the local doppler before heading out to stay out of the rain if possible.. It is usually pretty accurate..

Bah, not a single ride so far this month. A bad combination of endless frickin' snow (which I love, other than the cycling interruptions) and work overload. Putting in 12 hours a day plus lots of time on the weekends for the past month has left me with precious little riding time.

Two miles to home. I've come down the hill and walked across the steel grate bridge. That's French Creek in the darkness. In the distance you can see car headlights. My own lights are a Planet Bike LED unit, and a Bell cheapie, both serving as emergency lighting since my Nite Rover unit wasn't charged. I also have a helmet light, two blinkers, reflectors, and reflective clothing. You can never be too lit.

It was nice shirtsleeve weather here, although windy. I went on the non-drop ride this morning, got in 27 miles. It drizzled ever so slightly prior to ride time, but that went away completely by ride time, and the only moisture I encountered was sweat. Then rode the cargo tricycle to Wallyworld this evening for another 3 miles or so. Still in the top 400 at bikejournal.

Beautiful weather here the last 4 days and I haven't ridden due to work and personal junk keeping me busy. Going to get out tomorrow!
