Food Choices

I am a bit curious as to what all of us Clydes are eating.

I gained over 20 lbs since T-Giving, shooting up to 225, even with regular exercise, gaining most of my weight by eating pizza, cheeseburgers, hot dogs and fries for lunch (not all at once). Over the past week or so, I quit eating all that garbage and dropped 5 lbs by bringing in well-stocked salads and a couple avocados

For the most part, I have always been a hearty eater. Lunch usually consisted of at least $5 worth of fast food, no drink. Dinner meals fluctuate from the light soups and salads to heavier pasta and pizza or occasional steak. Even a Saturday afternoon bike ride requires a stop at my favorite restaurant, where I typically order a large plate of pasta.

Breakfast choices are always in flux. Years ago it was terrible. I'd stop at McD's or go into a sit-down and order eggs Benedict w/ hash-browns. Then it evolved to just drinking coffee. More recently I would go for some peanut butter spread on sprouted grain or hemp bread. This week it was simpler: a banana and an apple on the go.

Several years ago I stopped eating doughnuts and other pastries along with candy. I never drink soda.

Breakfast 7 times out of ten is a hard boiled egg and coffee at 5am. The other 3 of ten it is either a nice bowl of cream of wheat or a plain blueberry bagle. Today was a bagel day as I neglected to boil up another batch of eggs last night.

Lunch is a ham sandwich, 1 piece of lunch cheese, carrots, apple, fiber one bar, and water. This never varries, same thing, every day. Except weekends when I'll often skip lunch as I tend not to wake up until 10 or 11.

Dinner varries but due to my wife being on a gluten free diet we mainly eat fish and other lean meats for supper. This has helped to keep my weight in check even though my cardio exercise has taken a nose dive over the winter. My weight bobs between 198 and 203 depending on my activity at the gym and whether or not I've been bad with my meals.

Wow your post reminded me of what my wife keeps mentioning all the time of what she used to, and still does sometimes, pig out on in front of the TV.
1/2 a pizza from the local place, hot dog, 2x chicken from KFC with biscuit, arbies curly fries and a diet coke (she prefers the taste). Yup that is a meal. She is one of those annoying people that shovels anything in and doesn't gain weight.

I try and avoid fast food and prepared food (sodium and fats) although there was a time when I didn't. Actually I have found bicycle commuting is great because I don't stop at a drive through for breakfast, lunch or dinner although einstien begals is sooo close I did stop there in the AM one day. The new cafeteria crew at work is great too because they _suck_ so I don't eat as much.

Now if I'm on a really long ride and it is the choice between some diner or Mc'ds I'll actually take mc'ds because I know it won't get me sick. I'll even take cici's pizza buffet *knock on wood*

Usually it's oatmeal and/or eggs (with cinnamon) for breakfast rarely a begel with cream cheese. Then scattered throughout the day it will go something like soy milk, salad, whole grain pasta, organic low sodium pasta sauce, PB&J on Whole Grain, brussel sprouts or brocolli, green beans, blueberries, banana, stawberries and lots of water.

I just enjoy the same foods I have always eaten, but keeping the portions down and greatly reducing my intake of certain key high-fat foods like fries, bacon, and cheeseburgers. And I drink less milk than I used to though I dearly love a fine glass of milk.

Guess my weight loss strategy is to put a little less in and take a lot more out through riding and other workouts. It has worked so far.

Well, I am trying to cut down on my junk food. I am trying to eat more veggies. I found that I don't care for fruit as much as I enjoy veggies. I have recently cut out bread because I love it too much. I was able to cut out coffee. The junk food I enjoy is Chinese food but I eat only the veg. and rice. I am trying to be more careful with what I drink, you know sodas, energy drinks etc. I have recently resumed bike riding so despite the winter weather I prefer to either ride or walk, take the bus. DH is trying to buy a car I can not afford it. . . health reasons.

Gas, .69 cents the price of a can of beans.

Temptation always gets the better of me. Friday we all picked up a couple of large pizzas and I ate way more than my share. On Saturday, I took GF out for dinner, over-ordered by getting appetizer, soup, salad and a large portion of Lasagna -- ate the whole thing plus helped "clean-up" her plate.

On the upside: I rode a century with MTB that day. So, I guess I earned the right to pig-out.
