My first Metric Century

It is several months overdue, but I finally did my first metric century. I needed pretty good distance ride in today to go ready for my first imperial century in three weeks. A friend of mine and I decided to go ahead and make a metric out of it. The weather was spectacular. We started about 9:30 with temps in the low 40's and ended with temps around 60 and relatively calm winds. We left from my hills and road up into the hills in southern Tennessee and circled back down. It was beautiful ride through some wonderful back roads. One of these days I am going to take a tip from the Historian and actually remember to bring my camera along. Total distance was 64.64 miles with an average speed of 15.1 mph and with an on bike time of 4:15:10 and a total time of 4:31. The high point was passing a section of road that I remember passing a cyclist on when I was driving about a year ago. I remember thinking then that there was no way that I would be able to make it up these hills in that area.

Good job. Sometimes when I remember the camera, I don't take the time to stop to take the photos. What does this say about me. How much riding have you been doing before this ride?

After some very inconsistent riding, I've ridden the last 4 days. I don't know if I've improved, but mentally I feel better. One odd thing I have noticed is my avg speed seems to be higher then when I was riding regularly last fall. I will have to keep an eye on that. I have about 5 weeks to get ready for my 66 mile ride.

I have been in race prep mode for a while for the duathlon that I did last weekend, so I have not ridden much distance in a while. I rode a 40 mile ride in January and a couple of 30's in February. My longest ride before this was a 50 mile last August. I have been averaging about 40 miles a week through the winter
