Don't ya just hate it when....

You go into a bike shop to check out prices to upgrade you bike, and end up buying a new one? Short story, my son and I where on our way back from Hocking Hills State Park (south eastern Ohio, really cool, but back to the story) stopped by the Performance Bike Shop in south Akron. I was planning on upgrading my old Cannondale sr300. I was looking to buy the new Raleigh Clubman this year, but the wife convinced me we needed other things this year, like a fence in the back yard for the doggies. We agreed on me upgrading the Cannondale, I was planning on new bars, fork, and seat (probably a brooks).

Boy this story has more tangents than a high school algebra book, doesn't it?

So I am looking around Performance. They are having a clearance on '08 bikes. I looked at some road bikes, the asked if they had any steel bikes. They showed me the Fuji Touring. At first I didn't like the looks so much, but it was eating at me. It wasn't what I thought I was looking for. But the one on the floor was my size so I took it for a test ride. And as Paul Harvey Used to say "And that the rest of the story." I put it in layaway until I get my yearly attendance bonus check in three weeks.

Oh yeah, original price $950 Clearance price $650, the club man I was looking at with very similar setup $1100

My new ride :

Nice. I just picked up a MASI Speciale not too long ago and the ride is so much sweeter than my Trek 1.5. And I'm not saying the Trek 1.5 is a bad ride because it's nice, but the ride on steel is sweet.

You hit a bump and you expect the shock but it never really comes.

Well to be truthful, I do not hate it but my wife really does. I have not done this in awhile but it was bad when I did.

Nice looking bike. I am sure that you will love the feel of steel. I remember going from a steel bike to an aluminum one. The aluminum was was defiantly stiffer and I was faster but boy did my back take a beating....

Yea I hate it also. I went to Performance Bike last Friday to pick up a small $7.00 cargo net for my rear rack. I made the mistake of looking at the bikes and noticed they had the 08 sale going on and a tax free weekend. Well I ended up buying a Fuji Absolute 2.0 for my wife.

Congratulations on your new ride - it is really pretty.

I just bought the same one a few weeks ago, and love it. It's been to cold to go for a long run but I've been commuting to work since the first of the month.

It is insane, but oftentimes it makes the most sense. I have been looking at upgrading my wheels and some key components to ultegra. That would be great. Then I look at the stock at my LBS and they have some complete bikes with the stuff I am wanting at around the price I would be paying for just the upgrades, and that is if I bought the upgrades online.

I don't know what kind of deal the bicycle manufacturers are getting from companies like Shimano and Bontrager, etc, but they are clearly getting a lot better deal then we can since they can throw in the rest of the bike for free

I'd sell them doggies on craigslist so fast and use that money to finish paying off the bike!
