Trek Antelope bikes......
I'm looking at buying an old 80s cromoly steel mountain bike. My question is, what is an Antelope bike? Some models say Trek 820 Antelope, 850 Antelope, etc. and some don't say it. What's the difference in the bikes that say Antelope, Mountain Track, Single Track?

Some years had a name associated with the model number, and some didn't.
It is actually irrelevant other than an assist in establishing a date for the bike.
They did the same for some of their road models... Some had a name like Elance etc, for a specific model number for a year or two, then the name disappeared.

I have three old chromoly Treks. I have a 1995 and 1996 Trek 850 Mountain Track
and I bought a 2000 Trek 800 womens bike this weekend.
I love the ride of the steel bikes.

I still have an Antelope 820. It's a good bike. I found out that I didn't like off-road riding. so I put some Slicks on it and have been riding it on the road for the last couple of years. I'm picking up my new Trek 7.3 FX next week and will set my 820 up as a bike for my wife.

I wouldn't get caught up over the name without seeking therapy.
