Hey, Biker Guy!

I am not sure what it is, but I have heard this yelled in my direction several times in the last few days. I don't normally hear anything from anyone, so I can only assume it is happening now that more car windows are being rolled down to enjoy the milder weather.

Last night, fully expecting a typical smart-ass comment from the individual, I turned to look at him and just as his wise-crack was about to come out he stopped in the middle of the first word and said, "Whoa! Check out the light on that dude's helmet!"

So, not only are flashing lights good for safety, they can spare you from jeering as well.

Yesterday I was about three miles from the house when a storm came up. I decided to book it back to the house. Big black wall cloud. Anyway, I was going through a local park and instead of running the road that meanders around I took a point A-B approach. As I blurred by a picnic shelter with four juvenile delinquents sitting at a table I heard.....

"Whoa! Look at the Old Dude on the mountain bike"

Even with the windows down I could never fully understand what someone was saying to me as they sped by.

Therefore, in my little world all the people who jeer at me instantly become cute young ladies shouting "Nice A_s!!".

Every once in a while I get a "Hey! Nice butt!" as my fiancee passes me on her drive home.

I haven't been yelled at yet but I yelled at a cager for the first time yesterday. She was stopped at a light waiting to turn right. I too, was going to go right. I came up right as the light was green, but she was too distracted to go more than 1 mph since she was watching two guys push a car on the other side of the street. Rather than stop, I rang my bell a few times (her window was down) and hollered "GO" at the top of my lungs. She was so startled she nearly drove into the traffic island and then careened over the road as she tried to find out where the yell came from. Eventually she sped off.

I got stopped by a couple of kids once on beater bikes and one of them asked (seriously) if I was a racer. When I could catch my breath from the laughing I realized, to them, strange clothes means some kind of elite athlete. Regardless of the un-elite appearance of the person in said strange clothes. :-)

Damn! You beat me to it! All those lines had the same underlying tone. They were just waiting for him to say something like, "Oh, I don't really notice the ladies."

I got yelled out for the first time about a week ago. I was called an *****hole and told to get the fu#k off the road. I responded with a thumbs up.

The annoying thing is that they weren't big enough to yell at me when they were behind me in the left turn lane so I could respond. They had to wait until they were far enough away that I couldn't catch them.

I am pretty sure I was yelled at another time, but the lady had her windows up so I couldn't hear what she was saying, but the car was shaking pretty violently and the kid in the back seat looked pretty petrified.

Along the lines of "You know you're a Clyde..."

You know you're a clyde when the jerk in the car jeering at you hastily adds, "...sir!" when he gets a second look at what he was jeering at.

Dude, that's where I get the most compliments! And any compliment is a good compliment! From what I've heard, as long as I don't shake it more than 3 times, I'm not gay!

Not really a jeer from a car....

Popped into the store next door where I work at and the guy behind the counter says, "I saw you riding your bike today by Sharpstown. You ride pretty fast."

The last time anyone said anything negative (that I heard) was about six months ago. It was the usual "get on the sidewalk" comment by some jerk with LA plates on his SUV. At the stop sign where I caught up with him, I waved and pointed at the green sign at the side of the road with a picture of a bicycle on it (it was a "share the lane" bike route) and said, "Here in Texas cars share the road with bikes. Be careful and drive safe."
