How Do I Lose This Belly Fat? (not for the pic sensitive)

OK, besides stopping Gina from grabbing my arse while tyring to take a serious pic, how does one lose the belly fat? Been watching everything I eat, except the once a week ice cream treat!

I feel my overall size going down, knees and joints are smaller, clothes are getting baggier but still only down 13 lbs. I feel more fit, the long climbs aren't as tough and the fitness level feel a bit higher. But how in the heck does one get rid of the belly fat?

I do crunches, eat better but what does one eat to speed the process of belly fat loss? Or is it always the last to go? Do I just need to be patient. Want to drop 15 lbs more by June without turning weak!

C'mon all you fruit eaters, advice!

Eat less, exercise more. Drop any soda you're still drinking and switch to water. Water helps the kidneys and liver process out fat and turn it to stuff your body can use. Drink lots of water.

Food dairy. Track what you eat. Surgery is the ONLY way to remove spot fat. Burning more calories than eating, burns fat all over.

OVer on the WW board, someone else posted this question. They gave about the same answer I gave, and he's a MD.

Sorry, but if you get a better answer, I'll try it with you!

Agreed ^

It's unfortunate but you can not choose where your body loses the weight from aside from liposuction. Just work on lowering body fat % and it will come off.

I don't think there's much you can do besides the 20K miles a year you mentioned or go back in time and choose different parents...

I've had a gut since about age 26, even during the 4 years or so I logged approximately 10k miles a year.

But, I like beer, so if you don't there may be a chance for you.

Besides the other suggestions, here's one outside the box. Have Gina give you a nightly shoulder massage, I hear stress can cause you to retain fat. Hey, what can it hurt

Disclaimer: I'm not a medical doctor and the facts in this post maybe made up, but the fun factor still exists.

Best advice yet! Maybe edit your post, claim to be fat specialist, she might fall for the ol "massage releases fat cells" trick!

FWIW my doctor told me the only way I could loose mine is to not eat anything that comes packaged and then it would likely take a couple years. Like you I loose wieght all over except the gut.

I have been eating cucumbers, carrots, salads, home and freshly sliced. I use rice vingegar instead of any kind of dressing. Chicken breasts from the meat counter. I'd say it's going down but slower on the gut. SO I think I'm doing ok, just looking for tips to lose at a more rapid pace on the gut. Giving up soda may be the only way to speed it up!

I did pretty good in 2005 with the South Beach Diet. It's a low-carb diet. You may want to give it a go. If you do, I highly recommend reading the text part of the book (i.e., before the meal plans and recipes). A better understanding of the diet makes it easier to follow.

Belly fat is generally the first to be put on and the last to be taken off. It's a good way for things to be...the weight around your waist is near your center of gravity, and produces the least hindrance to activity.

That's it. Keep an ACCURATE, no-cheating food log for a week, and you'll find at least 1000 calories you didn't know you were eating (there's cheap software that makes this easy, but a notebook will work). No matter what the ads say, you CANNOT "spot reduce" fat from one area of your body. From your pic, you're carrying a lot of extra weight all over (no insult intended--we're built a lot alike, and that's not muscle on our arms).
Focus on aerobic exercise, too. Weight training is valuable, but at least for me, cycling or even walking burns more calories. You have to burn 3600 calories for every pound, and that's a lot of curls.
I have a terrific intake/consumption program called BalanceLog that figures calories and other nutritional data from more than 1600 foods and calories consumed in something like 300 exercises, even curling and sex (light, moderate or vigorous). It's no longer available, but there are other ones out there. It's WAY worth having if you can find it.

I have also done this diet with good results and actually am on it right now. Only thing I find is I have to take some simple carbs when doing big rides. Today I was starting to feel the bonk, group stopped at a bakery had a muffin and instantly felt good again.

Everyone keeps weight in different places.. Yours is the belly.. Crunches will help your core strength but will do very little to get rid of the belly fat.. This site has some great exercises, scroll down to the core section:

https://www.frixo.com/sites/fitness/exercises.html

Personally for me I need to do weight bearing exercises like running or racquetball to cut down the midsection.. RB seems to help the most..

There will not be any wayh to loose that weight, other than losing more body fat, or liposuction from what I have read and the classes I have taken. That is where men usually put it on first and it is usually the last place for it to come off.

Crunches have absolutely nothing to do with it.

I made myself a deal one year. Keep it under 175 and treat yourself to some lipo. After a year at 175 I realized I did not care anymore. I can do everything physically I -ever- want to do so why bother. For me to lose the -handles- I have to drop down to a level where people start wondering if I have a problem.

South Beach Diet works on that from the inside. When you naturally store excess fat in the belly, it is basically a pre-diabetic condition (at least in some people), and the sooner you recognize it and counter it, the better off you'll be over the long haul. I ended up lowering blood pressure, triglycerides and cholesterol, along with losing the weight, when I followed SBD closely.

Since I started cycling last year, I haven't really followed SBD very strictly, but I do tend to eat a low carb diet and yeah, I know that it can help you bonk when riding. One thing that seems to help without resorting to carbs is to make sure I stay very well hydrated. The other thing is, that when I do take carbs in, don't go overboard. I'll drink the smallest bottle of sports drink I can get, or go for a low-carb option if there is one.

The hard part for me is that if I take in carbs while biking, it gets harder to resist when I'm not in the saddle.

Ya, this belly fat stuff just doesn't seem to go away as fast as the other parts of the body. My doctor says it can happen, but it will resist until I reach a balance point in my weight loss. I don't have the belly I used to have back in August '08, but I still got a belly. My cycling jerseys fit much better, so that counts for something.

All I know is, it's a lot easier to suck it in when a pretty girl crosses my path, & that's not a bad thing.
