Alta Sierra Ride

I went out to do an unsupported century today. It was a little strenuous, 100 miles with 10,000’ of climbing. I made it to the top of the big climb at Alta Sierra, elevation 6,102’

, 58.8 miles and 7,360’ of climbing in 5:32. There was still snow under the trees near the top, but the weather was prefect. I was a little tired when I got to the top, rested for a few minutes and headed back down the hill. Coming down the hill the bike started feeling funny in the corners. I stopped and checked out my rear tire, problem. About 4” of the outside layer of the tire casing had come apart.

I was halfway down the hill and had to slow way down and nurse it to Glennville where I called my wife to pick me up. I didn’t get to finish the ride but ended up the 73.5 miles and 7,560’ of climbing.

Nice ride! Good call on calling the wife! I've had buds insist on continuing a ride with similar damage. Guess we can't all be smart!...I didn't let them, I'm bigger!

After having just ridden 3 miles down an 8% grade with a rear wheel having a mind of it's own...... I had my wife met me at little market in the hills, I had 36 miles and 2,500' of climbing before getting home. While I waited for my wife I had a great turkey sandwich made by the store and a nap.
