My 2nd Century

Hey Guys - Well I have not posted in a while. Bad internet reception at my apt in Chicago....or perhaps lost my ooomph for posting. Have been a little depressed and I think it has impacted my posting...Anyways- just wanted to report that I rode in an awesome Charity Ride last Saturday (Tony Serrano Century) and last year had ridden 80 miles when it was held in October. This year they moved the ride to last weekend.

So this year I wanted to do a century. I rode with 2 guys that pushed me...so it may have been a bit tough. I met one of the guys on one of my first rides ever - so he saw me some 50 pounds ago and very slow. Now, he was just getting back into riding after surgery and there were times I would soft pedal waiting for him. Most of the time though - I pushed myself and it was a really tough ride.

When we got to about 73 miles - there's a rest stop and a final loop. The day was really windy!! So Mike (recovering from surgery) went on to the finish and his friend and I headed out for the 20 mile loop...On the way put I saw some guys from my bike group headed back - about 11/2 hours ahead of us....Kind of touch to go ride the loop when I was exhausted but seeing them was very helpful. So off we went. After an hour and a half and we made it back to the rest stop. They were waiting for us. (We were the last riders of the 100 milers). Anyway I felt pretty awesome that we made the loop. Next we had the final push to the end. Lots of hills which I thought were cruel on our final miles....

But alas - we made it!! Started at about 8:30AM and finished at 5Pm.. Quite a day. No bike computer so I have no idea my avg.

Felt like a winner!!! One of the last cars in the parking lot. Also managed to get a nasty cold all week - and am skipping this weekend’s 3 day camping and biking weekend with Brag as I try and get over this cold. So I am not sure my body appreciated the ride. But I feel like it was a great accomplishment.

Picture attached- not my best look, but it was a pic of me on the ride.

Nice job! I'm heading out on a century this weekend, and I know there's one really good hill in the last 15 miles. Those hills at the end are cruel, aren't they? I did a 300k a couple weekends ago, and there were 4 steep climbs in the last 5 miles of the ride!
Looks like you had nice weather for your ride, too. That always makes things more fun.

Nicely done. Those late hills on long rides are tough indeed. Of course the wind can be like riding uphill sometimes also. I still have yet to complete a century, so I'm very happy you've got 2 down. And we all burn out on posting once in a while. Just keep checking in so we know how you're doing.

Thanks Denny!! Yes - I am here. Been on afrew rides - and then sick all week - and a pretty disgusting cough right now. So I am sad that I am not out there biking. On the plus side? I am finally cleaning the apartment.

OK _ Guys ride safe!!

You've done well Grasshopper!....You're lookin' like a cyclist nowadays MissB. You should look into a CAM challenge (Century a Month) for motivation. I used to do a century once a year. Joined a challenge and ended up with 23 for the year. That's when you find "nothing can stop ya"!

Sometimes it's nice to forget about posting and just get out there to ride! But if you aint gonna post, lose the jersey!

300K In one go? How long were you in the saddle for?

Congrats Miss B, keep up the good work. Inspiration for the rest of us who haven't made one yet to get going not surprised you have a cold either. it would take alot out of you if you not used to it. but remember don't sit on your laurels but get out there and do another one when you're able that is and let us know how you get on. thanks for the pics too and best of luck with the cold

Great going! It's not easy to ride a 100 miles; not many people even want to try it. I'm glad you had fun.

Thanks - for me it's just committing to an all day event and the agoiny of th last 10-20 miles! But it was definitely worth it.
