A Single Track Day

The last few weeks, on Saturday mornings I have struck out from home and ridden to Cape Girardeau, MO. The ride is 32 miles give or take and is very flat for the most part. Having done this three weeks in a row, I have come to a conclusions. I like hills! I have always fussed about the amount of hills in my county, but the reality is, riding flat sucks (to me anyway). I like to coast a little. Can't do that flat, you slow down.

So today, I decided to do something different. We did go to Cape, but I had my wife drop me off on the Illinois side (because it is fun to ride over the Mississippi). Anyway, she dropped me off at the parking lot of strip club. I asked her if she had any singles on her. She just rolled her eyes.

The first part of the ride was 9 miles of city street and city asphalt trails. I did this to get the legs and lungs warmed up for some Single Track mountain bike trails that are in an area called Delaware Park. Every time I get to ride fun, fast jumps, bermed corners and creek crossings, I am so happy that I have the Mountain Bike fascination .

It was hard to get any really good pics as I was alone and I do not have the self-photographic skills as Mr. Beanz. But, here is the link to all the pics, and below are some of the highlights. Enjoy!

The starting point (smile)

The Mississippi River Bridge Crossing (The wind was cross ways about 30mph....WILD!)

The city park trail runs the length of the town (about 5 miles).

I think the park is about 80 acres all dedicated to single track mountain biking (though I did share it with some ATV's. They were cool though). This is the trail head and quickly turns into single track.

This pic does not represent well, but this is a jump at the end of a steep little drop that can cause problems. Instead of letting you float a landing, it is like a mogul on a ski slope and gives you another ramp in about 25ft.

There are several great corners at the bottom of run offs. FUN!!!!

There are about 15 creek crossing like this one. These are the best!!!
Yes, that is me. I hung the camera on a piece of bark on a tree and pulled the 10 second delay and about killed myself trying to get in the shot. i really need to practice this art, or get some friends.

Finally, this is screaming downhill that ends at that crossroad you see, and is a perfectly designed jump with a run out. I probably got a couple of feet (that felt like ten foot) and when I hit locked the back brake and slid to stop about 40 foot pst the jump (reminded me of when I was a kid and I would lock it up for the fun of it).

There you go Jay! I just dropped off my OCR2 at Doug's for this weekend's Tour de Stooge and he has on older GT Peace 9er SS on clearance for $399! Then I read threads like this! Then I put my guns up for sale! I'm pitiful!

PM me and we have to get together for a ride this month! I promise to go slow on the road! Those 32mm XC tires will be great on that dirt!
