OT This Damn Flu

My wife here is sick as a dog has been for a few days . Dr are telling her to stay home and she is home from work ! I don't seem to have what ever she has . They took blood I assume for testing at the emergency room a couple days ago . It looks to me like there REALLY trying to play this down like it nothing . MAYBE my wife has it maybe she don't all I can tell you is she is really sick with all the symptoms of the flu .

Anyone else here have it or think they do ?? ? I know I may have it there saying a 6 to 7 day incubation period for on set of it . I feel fine right now .

I actually read that the incubation period was like 1-2 days for that flu going around. Usually the flu lasts about 7-10 days.

Here's a handy Google Map to track WHO-reported cases of swine flu: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...1&source=embed

Gotta Say it:

She's sick...must be the swine flu!
Hopefully, because it is less severe than the annual flu, and she will get over it more quickly.

No casualties in the US. Not seeming to be that bad once caught. Just a flu.

EDIT: Once casualty in the US now. 23 month old child, so among the "vulnerable" population. Still not necessarily worse than other flus.

I got hit pretty fast last Wed. It started like a twinge in my sinus and by midnight I was down with full blown (no pun intended) oh-please-kill-me-now nastiness, ache, and high fever.

I never had flu that was all respiratory...no vomiting or diarrhea at all. This seemed like a sinus/bronchial infection X 10.

Didn't hear anything about swine flu being out until it was too late for me to test for it (you stop throwing off virus particles after 3-4 days apparently)

I don't know, but I would take the hype over this new and improved pig flu with a grain of salt. So far, there are 68 cases in the USA - out of 350 million persons in the country.

I believe I read that 10,000 people die from the various flu strains ever year. A scary thought no doubt, but the it really puts the death toll of a meager 21 in mexico into perspective.

I believe the number is 36,000 in the US alone.

I think the thing that people are worried about is that in Mexico at least, the number is 150+ fatalities out of roughly 2000 cases. Apparently a higher than average percentage. Also worrisome is that the fatalities aren't predominantly in vulnerable populations.

Not saying that there isn't a lot of media hype going on, but there are a few things that make this different than your average flu bug. Maybe not worse, but different.

One interesting analysis (definitely non-conclusive). http://www.newscientist.com/article/...ry-so-far.html

ha

swine flu - 7 deaths

regular flu - 13,000 deaths

guess what ? they are both perfectly normal ,7 - 10 day flus. swine flu
is just 'out of season' and 'might mutate again' since it is already a mutant

you gonna die from the flu it is because
you are very weak in some way.

I'm only going to worry if people start dreaming about Mother Abigal or Randall Flagg.
