I dont think id opt for anything different.

I had a hard enuff time paying the $450 on a bicycle. I could have afforded more (not too much more) but i just could not wrap my head around that much $$$$ for a bike without an engein LOL.

I have seen bikes in the LBS that cost more than my first motorcycle cost me LOL.

That bein said i NEVER thought the difference between a Big box store and even the entry level real bikes would be so HUGE so maybe part of my thought process is still just ignorance.

Well, money is an object. I could name a dozen first class frame makers off the top of my head that I would love to have one of their bikes.

I am buying parts and talking with Mr Schwinn about getting a custom Gunnar.
I was hoping to do it this year, but it looks like it will get pushed back until the winter. It will basically be a Sport, I asked for a bike designed to do Centuries.
I already have shifters, cranks, and a few of the small parts.

I thought you were going to get an LHT until you lost all the weight you wanted to lose.

for me it would have to be a bike from Elite Bicycles epcifically the joule pro road https://www.elitebicycles.com/bike_de...p?id=joule_pro starts about 5k but I visited their location and was impressed by their bikes and their personality. Add another 500 to that for the custom fitting (5 hrs worth of fitting).

For me since I don't really have any inclination to be a road bike maniac I'd probably stick with something a bit more conventional. Nothing custom. Maybe a cross check with high end components and no bar end shifters.

I'm not really into "gotta have the best". I just like good solid fun bike to ride. Once I thought I needed a Pinnarello Prince but I've come to realize that's not what I seek to do on a bike. YMMV.

If I did go custom it would have to have some of those beautiful artistic lugs.

For me, it would be a custom Chromoly touring bike built by the geniuses at True North Cycles in Guelph, Ontario. I've seen their work at the bike show, and they turn out some really nice bicycles. They don't have specific models, everything is built to order. Yeah front and rear racks and full fenders with road disc brakes, bar end shifters and topped off with a Brooks.

Now if only I could win the lotto......
An Ingles RetroTech in a two tone Breezer or flames paint job. Set up for road riding with Phil Wood hubs, Paul's cantis, King headset, Brooks saddle and other goodies. Something like this one but multispeed

I have two answers to that. The first is that I am not entirely sure what the best choice is for me... The Sport has spoiled me, it is just such a nice ride. We have talked before, and it's something you might want to consider. You could get the Waterford version with the James lugs. They look very nice chromed.

So my first impulse is to get another one, just better suited to me and what I want to do. OTOH.... the Sport I have could serve as my weekend ride, and I could get something like a custom Fast Lane set up as my tourer/commuter. I was looking at the LHT as a tourer/commuter. But while it's a nice bike for the money, it doesn't have the responsiveness a more expensive lite tourer has. If I had it in the garage, I'd just keep going to work on the Gunnar. On Mon, Wed, and Fri I am going to get the Sport. On Tues, Thur, and Sat I decide on the Fast Lane. On Sunday I rest.

How could you limit yourself to just one? I am thinking I need a new garage for all the bikes that I would have if money were no object. N+1 you know.

I already have it figured out... custom Ti frame (builder KISH) with custom paint job (Sprectrumworks). A good set of custom wheels using Chris King hubs, CK headset, Thompson seatpost and handlebar... I am not really into too much bling. I figure for about $4,000 or less, I can have the perfect bike.

Now if I were just the perfect rider!

Ahh yes, The Greenspeed, yeah one of those would be nice, heck you could be passing cars on one of those..... A custom idea would be a 2 up, where the two riders are side by side, put a fibreglass body on it, and people would be wondering where you got such a quiet sports car.

I just realized the Greenspeed is dual ended drive, the front rider drives the front wheel(s) and the back rider drives the rear wheel....

Nope, it's RWD only, just like any other tandem. It just has a really long chain setup. It almost looks like AWD, due to the geometry of the chainline, but it isn't.

I think if money were no object, I would need a barn to house all the bikes I would get. However, the most expensive would be the Pinarello Prince. Mine would be blue and white, not red and white like the one on the BF. And it would sit in my living room where the butler would dust it off every day, and ask me every day if I am ever going to ride it. And I would tell him I did not buy it to ride, but to stare at.

I know about N+1, but I don't know, I would like one touring bike (from True North, that I started this thread with), a fun bike like a Trek Madone, for those fun day trips and club rides with the other plastic bike full kit guys, with the wheels swapped for Clyde friendly ones, and use my current bike as a grocery getter and load hauler for when I want to use a bike that I am not that worried about if it gets pinched. A tandem would be nice, I like Tom's Greenspeed idea, don't really need a MTB as I don't do that kind of riding....

I like the idea of a stainless steel bike. All the advantages of steel, no dealing with corrosion. Plus you get that nice metallic look like Titanium (which would be my second choice, Litespeed perhaps).

I would take all of the United Bicycle Institute frame building courses and build my own.

or I would have one of these https://www.renovobikes.com/ made using some 300+ year old birdseye maple I have and some highly figured cocobolo wood for trim.

If money were no object, I'd have 3-4 bikes (at least):

I'd finish setting up my singlespeed commuter. It was pretty much a dream-bike (sold my car for it, gut custom frame from Ira Ryan in PDX), but there are a handful of parts I could replace. Old-school lugged steel, racks, shiny steel fenders, all mint green, chrome and leather. I'd change out the brake levers and the chainring, and add S&S couplers. I MIGHT make the aesthetic compromise of rebuilding with machined sidewall rims, the braking on that bike is utter ****.

I'd get a custom distance riding titanium bike (again with S&S couplers), set up pretty aggressively, but not full-on race positioning, for centuries and the like. I would bring this to all my charity and group rides.

I'd get a lugged steel touring bike, handlebar bag, room for racks, upright position, silly, playful, something like this in a different color scheme. https://vanillabicycles.com/frames/touring/2/ I would come up with a reason to own this.

I might get some kind of fast, racy, silly bike for short "club" type rides.

Im close with the Custom marinoni frame I bought last year. My components are mostly top shelf not all but Most

if Had to do it again with lots more $$ at hand. HMMM the frame/fork would be the focus of the quest.

True temper or Columbus Chomoly steel , very custom geometry 1/2 way between tour and Rando geometry

FILLET brazed By a small Regional builder with a few more braze -ons than I have now.

imron aircraft paint, and all the same stuff I have now for components with the exception of the FD and RD Id go Full bore XT (using Deore right now) .wheels headset BB brakes are all high end.

Id go with a stainless lugged /silver soldered frame But I do need a somewhat sloped top tube so fillet brazed would be my preffered method.

again My custom Maranoni is almost perfect I missed a few things when we designed it but all in all its 95% of what id want if I was doing again.

My dream right now would be a full Ti custom touring bike with Shimano XTR, disc brakes, Rohloff Speedhub and S+S couplers so I can take it with me on a plane.
I already have a pretty good race bike and my cross frame should be here in a about a month.

There are a few rare recumbent tandems that have both front and rear wheel driven seperately. They are mostly back to back models, and mostly racers at that. I believe some were in limited production at some point.

Speaking of touring machines
