I saw Fred yesterday, and.....

be afraid, very afraid.

So I go to one of the MUP's yesterday afternoon. Forgot my helmet, decided to ride anyway (yeah I know, I know). Been a few weeks since I last rode this MUP, but I got a decent start and felt OK except for my hands and triceps.

No sooner than I'm maybe 3/4 of a mile out here comes this medium sized, older gentleman on a PINK ladies style bike, brand unknown, but just about as close to a Barcalounger as you could have imagined on 2 wheels. Pretty much bolt upright, pedals in front and and bars almost fit for a Harley. He's wearing a nondescript white tanktop and short cargo shorts. Going at a nice clip for sure. We say hi. I swear I'm not even ANOTHER half a mile down the road before he passes me again like I'm going backwards! Yeah sure, 16-18mph is going backwards....well, I did get sore and slowed way down (the MUP's generally a steady uphill going north) a bit, but still!

Another mile, maybe 1.5 miles along (5.5 mile MUP) and the bastage passes me for the THIRD time going the other way! No doubt he made it all the way to the north end and back in less than 10 minutes. Lots of bikes coming and going, and quite a few fast roadies (Specialized seems popular, saw a couple Trek hybrids, one Scott road bike (more on THAT rider sometime) couldn't recognize anything else right off), but this Fred was outdoing 'em all!

Made it to the north end, found a taillight lying on the ground, finders keepers. Going south is always much faster for me even into the wind, and I made it back in about 24, 25 minutes. Fred only passed me once this time, going the other way, so I guess his starting point must have been on the north end somewheres.

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up....old goat, pink ladies bike, single left hand mirror, get out of his way! :p

Freds rule. Unencumbered by cycling pretense and fashion, they just ride.

He probably forgot his bicycle and had to ride his wife's bike.

(not that there's anything wrong with that)

I have noticed my productivity increases considerably when I'm in my Barcalounger. If I can just get it on wheels I might be king of the MUP around here too.
