newbie...new bike...first ride
aloha everyone
i have been lurking for a few weeks and have learned allot from your posts.
about a month ago i decided to get back on to a bike. i have been trying to find ways to enjoy much needed exercise. i have a gym membership but with an 18month old daughter its just a bit far enough away to be a hassle to get to.
i have been overweight most of my life. this year it hit an all time high of 295. that was it. i needed to move. i have a great dyno beach cruiser that hadn't got much use in ten years so i dusted it off, bought a kid trailer off of craigslist and have been riding every day since. i knew i needed a different bike, but i was using what i had.
yesterday i bought my new bike! its a Gary Fisher Napa. i started to have buyers remorse last night. but after my ride this morning i felt great about my decision.
it was a short ride. my bike computer told me it was 2.75 miles. it felt AWESOME. i even got my first "club wave" from a svelte guy all geared up bike shorts and all.
i look forward to getting to know you here and joining in on becoming a healthier person in the process.
aloha

hell yeah. i just went on my first ride this morning too with buddy of mine. Thursday i picked up a Giant Yukon and we probably went about 6 miles round trip today. I'm exhausted, my ass and thighs are aching, pouring sweat, and I LOVE it.
Congrats on getting into it.

When I hit 250 I had a choice: lose weight or buy a whole new wardrobe.
Like you, I started out on a big 'ol cruiser. It's still my favorite style. It probably works well towing a trailer full of kids too!

Welcome to you both. Nothing feels quite like riding a bike because you want to. YMMV
