Life Change!
 

So at 5'9" and 290+ I need to change my life before it takes me under. I was in the Army for 7 years and in 2007 got out and let myself go...until last week! I had a wake up call. I woke up with chest pains....AT 27!!!

Today I lined up a 2000(bought in 2005 new) 16" Hardrock with no suspension for $150.00. I am picking it up in the morning. I have been working out in the gym but I love speed and fresh air, not a hamster wheel in a sweaty room. I live in the interior of Alaska so I only will get to bike till september/October before the frigid air(-40 in Dec-Feb) gets here. I will have alot of questions and I will try and be an asset to the Super Clyde crew! Thanks, James:thumb:

Cold temps is less of a problem than the high temps - you just have to adjust clothing and riding style. Ride easily becuse you dont want to be gasping in great lungfuls of -40 air. I never commuted below 5F, but my son commuted 8 miles at -15F for a few days last winter (he uses Nokian studded tires). Beware, cycling is addictive. Another thing you will need for the winter are good lights and batteries that stand up to the cold.

I retired back in 2006 and immediately gained about 30 pounds. I got into some bad habits when I didn't have to worry about weigh-ins every 6 months. I never had any problem with PT tests. Cycling has really helped to drop the weight and get back into shape.

I am suddenly feeling a bit on the elderly side. Honorable discharge in 1989. Was in the best shape of my life, but am hoping in the next year or so to rival that feeling again.
