Clyde-Motivation!

So I have been talking to my buddies about my new desire to get my weight under control and I now have 3 new riding buddies! One is 6' about 300 and has a year old Kona with about 5 miles on it. The other went the next day to the LBS in Fairbanks and bought a Rockhopper and my other buddy, 6'2" 300LBS is getting a Specialized 29er on wed. The point is all these guys wanted was a fire lit under them! We are already planning on a rough start but with decent equipment and a good support group, we went from joking about eating to mask our sadness to taking control! I am so excited and I am truly proud of my friends:thumb: Wish us luck!

I won't. Luck has nothing to do with it. Instead I wish you have a good time riding and fitting riding into your new lifestyle.

Welcome.

I have one word of advice. Clench your teeth when you smile while riding so you don't get one of those monster mosquitoes lodged in your throat and choke on it.

Delta Jct is a really nice part of Alaska. I miss it, especially when the temp is in the high 90's here. Wanna take my old lady up there some time and show her how to fish for artic greyling in the back yard where my dad has his cabin.

You're lucky. For the most part I lost all mine on my own. Used to live in the desert in 29 Palms CA and used to ride my off the shelf mountain bike 10 miles out in the desert at lunch. It'd get to be 120 F out there in the worst part of summer and it sure would have been nice to have someone to be miserable with.

You guys Git R Done.

That's awesome! I often wish for even 1 friend like that. You've got 3. You'll be so happy when you see the pounds flying off your body.

Are you going to ride in the winter, too? If not, what will you do instead?

Sir-Loin 06-08-09 11:22 AM

Not sure about all winter, As Tex can verify, It does hit -40 quite frequently here in the interior. We are very lucky to get 22 hours of daylight until around Aug. I am the kind of guy that needs that team support, I think these guys are the same. Thanks for the support and our first trailride day is Saturday! You guys are awesome, thnx for the advice, 4 new riders say thanks....James

+500

and fitting in the new lifestyle with riding =)

They might have to do like some of you Yankee's do and invest in a set of rollers. When it's 70 degrees in December here I don't miss Alaska so much. :roflmao2:

You might want to invest in a set of kettle bells while you're at it for those winter workouts.

Congrats on finding and having a great support group! It will go a long way towards keeping you (and each other) on the path to a healthier lifestyle. Watch yer diet, drink lots of water, and ride like there is no tomorrow! Keep us updated on your progress.

You guys have the right idea, and make sure to keep it fun! Don't get too serious, it's only a bike. Just remember to ride as long as you smile, and if the smile goes south - find out why!!

Ben, I finally read some of your stories, that should keep me pumped for the next two weeks, then I will read Toms again, lol

Thanks for the great support and advice, we just got back from our first ride on Ft Greely. A neighbor saw us riding and joined in. Looks like we got 5 now. Its funny that just a week ago I was planning on going at it alone, now were 5 deep!

Also, we are looking at trainers for the winter time, any advice on a good indoor trainer that will allow us to use our bikes to train? We have a 29er in the group too, any 29er riders using a good wheel?
