Hear That? Me Either! 29r Big Apple 2.35
 

I got my 29" x 2.35" Schwalbe Big Apples. I have been running Kenda Karma 2.35.

Since the ticks are out in full force and the poison ivy is everywhere, I will be backing off the dirt trails for a few months and have decided to upgrade my tires for the local rail trail and roads. I am in love with these Big, Beautiful, Slick, Fatboy Balloon Tires. :love:

I am running at 50 psi and these things are just plain FAST compared to my knobbies. I played with the pressure a little and 40 psi was super cushy but sluggish, and 60 psi rolled great but was pretty harsh on the bottom. The 50 psi seemed to be the best balance of speed and cushion for my clydeness.

And quite......holy cow, I can actually hear things again. The Karma's were pretty loud, and I was wearing the center knobs off, so this seemed like a good idea.

The biggest complaint I have heard about the Big Apple's is the weight, but I am 255# so the extra 1.7# is not that big of a deal to me. I will try to get a couple of pics up.

I am riding "Bomber Tires". They are much cooler than I will ever be. :rolleyes:

Right on! I'm going to run a set of 26x2 Big Apples on my Hardrock as soon as I finally (or more like, if I ever) wear out the Armadillos on there now. I hear nothing but good about 'em, and if my experience with the Marathon Cross says anything about Schwalbe I'm sure I'll dig 'em.

Big Apples Rock. I have them on two folding bikes now and had a pair on my Trek SU 2.0 before I sold it. Your observations on pressure mirror my experiences exactly.

I DIG heavily. That's one nice ride, my man, very very nice.

The BA's are a popular tire with the vintage bike/rat rodder crowd too. You get the smooth cushioned ride of a balloon tire with a low rolling resistance that is not expected from a tire this size. And 2.35 will fit it most frames and not drag the sides or come in contact with the chain.

I have about 1K miles on a set on my karate monkey. Love 'em. No flats yet.

I think I have discovered a problem though. The BA's are so quiet compared to my Karma's that I am hearing a "ticking" sound that I never heard before?:twitchy:

Those also look like they'd make great touring tires. :D

I've got a set of WTB Graffiti SF 26 x 2.2 on my cruiser. Similar looking tire, and hellz yeah, the ride is super cushy.

I ride BA in 26x2 and love them. I would be wary of using them for a tour unless it was road only. I usually ride some trails and a bit of grip comes in useful.
