Help, I have fallen in love with another bike!!!

I don't know why I do this to myself, but I test rode another bike last week, and I can not get it off my mind. It is a 2008 Kona Jake that one of the LBS's has marked down. I guess that I really don't NEED the bike, but I really WANT it.. I keep rationalizing why I should get it. Then I try to tell myself that I can't afford it, but then I think of ways I might be able to swing getting it again. The LBS is not making it easier either, they have a lay away program that they said they would extend the normal 90 day period out as long as I kept paying. So, talk me into or out of this bike. :)

I sayyyyyy....go for it. Man cannot have enough bikes... besides you need a cyclocross

donalson 06-19-09 09:24 PM

how much?... i still want a CX bike :(...

N+1, remember......always the perfect rationale. :p

I couldn't possibly comment either way without seeming partisan.

I'm sitting in a room with two whole bikes (road, single-speed), an entire spare groupset, enough parts to build up most of a fixed gear (sans frame), a spare set of wheels and enough carbon componentry for half a custom frame build. AND I've got a new custom titanium frame on order.

One day the wife will catch on to the N+1 thing and I'll be in lots of trouble...

Back in January, I fell in lust with a GT Peace Rasta Painted 29r Multi. I knew better. i could not afford it. I took that knowledge home and spent hours reading about it and pouring over specs.

Inside of two weeks, I had listed a gob camping and whitewater gear (mostly stuff I had two of or didn't use anymore and was just collecting) on some "for sale areas" of 3-4 different forums and by the end of the 3rd week, I walked into my LBS and bought my baby, and had a couple hundred bucks left over for beer :)

Unlimited layaway as long as you keep on paying? Is there really a question here? OK, there is one question, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??

EDIT: You really picked the wrong crowd if you were hoping for negative feedback with regards to getting it, lol.

+1
I have six bikes in the garage and just bought another to do a serious touring build. N+1 hasn't achieved maximum yet, but I'm sure I'm approaching the upper limit.

You have to buy it. It is the only way. It's wants to live at your house.

Buy it now! I have a Kona Dew and love it.

$800, it's only $50 off of the 2008 price but, it is $100 off the 2009 price.

That was what I hoping for, I would also try to talk anyone here who asked about getting a new bike into it too. :D I have done some more research, and the Jake appears to be a great bike for the way I want to use it. My plans for tomorrow may have changed:innocent:

Don't spend money you don't have. You'll have to work more to pay it off and that will keep you from riding. Maybe you can cure yourself with some new gear for your current bike?:thumb:

Find yourself a mistress, in the long run, it is gonna be cheaper than bikes:D

jesspal 06-21-09 06:14 AM

Buy it, otherwise it will haunt you for a long time.

bautieri 06-21-09 06:56 AM

You could always go for N - 1 to free up funding for the new jake.

As a recent convert I must say that CX bikes are a heck of a lot of fun! The versatility is outstanding and there is very little that one cannot do (within reason).

I thought you where getting that already:)

I amost bought that exact bike last fall, but found my Fuji absolute with almost similar components for cheaper, so I bought it. The Jake had a better shimano stuff, but so far Ive been happy.

Well... with all the positive support here, I just could not help myself. My new Kona Jake is sitting in the garage!!!!:D I picked it up this afternoon. I just got back from making my initial fitting adjustments and a short test ride. It was fairly easy dial it since I just measured my road bike and matched it as the best that I could. My test ride confirmed that I was pretty close and may only need some fine tuning. For now though, it will do. THANKS again for the support and advise. :thumb: Now I may need to sell my mountain bike, but I can live with that.
