    3rd Triathlon - I HTFU'ed!!

So, I've been dialing back my posting, because I felt I had too many threads, and people were having to read too much about daily parts of my life, and I've been busy.

Anyways, I've been training for my 3rd triathlon which was yesterday. I won't bore you with a lot of the details (It was hot, humid, and I need to learn to run instead of walking), but i wanted to share a biking success.

The ride yesterday was 14.29 miles, and I averaged 15.4 MPH! This was a rousing success for me, and makes up a little for the fact that I walk instead of running (for now)!

No flat tire issues at all. I didnt realize how little pressure id been riding on, and that was likely a big source of the problems. My front when i finally got a gauge was sitting at about 50. I had the back inflated when I got a new rim strip, and it has been fine. The gatorskin feels heavier but it still rolls well enough that I am a lot more of the problem than it is. When I lose 50 more lbs, then i can complain about the weight of my tired LOL.

I actually did really well overall my swim was only 23:20 for a 750M, that takes me significantly longer in the pool because i stop to rest. This time i just switched strokes and kept going.

    Awesome!

I think back to my tri-racing days and I know I'd be hard pressed to finish one now without walking portions (or most) of the run.

Nice job! Keep an eye on your tire pressure and check it before every ride. Pressure can drop significantly in just a couple days.

I forgot my gauge at home when i took the trunk bag off, but i filled them both up well before the race, so im sure i was at good pressure on the back. up front it was prolly a little low, but higher than id been riding at.

Run, or walk for me, was 5k. Every spring Ive seen is about that distance on the run portion.

That is a long swim for that distance run. I thought the sprint tri here was bad with it's 400m swim with it's 3 mile run. What's worse is that the bike is only 6 miles. I think my wife is going to do it this year, because riding is her weakest event.

Yeah it seems like they've really been making outdoor swims a lot longer at these races. Frankly, I enjoyed the hell out of it. Sure, I'm kinda slow, but you have NO IDEA how awesome it felt to get out of the water with that time. I knew I had done so much better than my best pool swim, and now I know how to pace myself for these. Training now is actually going to allow me to be faster and more endurant, instead of just trying to survive the swim!

Plus my #1 christmas present will be a set of aero bars and such. Wheels will be on the list too probably.

The aero bars will help a ton, but be prepared to retrain the way that you ride. It is a whole different set of muscles that is used. I started off just using mine during the down hills, and I have worked up to being able to stay in the them for a couple of miles at a time.
