New bike finally made it home.....

Was able to swing by the bike shop and grab my bike today after work.

Looks like they had the bike for a few days but had to wait for the wheels and hubs to arrive. They got it set up for me and I took it for a quick spin in the parking lot.

I had them install an Incite 8i wireless as I wanted to log my miles.

Back home and back into the garage for today. Gonna get an early moring ride in the morning just after sun up. I'd ride now but it's raining too hard.

If you are ever in Augusta, Ga and have bike needs then I can't say enough good about Brett and his staff at Outspokin bike shop. Super nice people who want you to be happy and well served by your gear.

My wife's Trek, too. She loves her Georgia Bulldawgs red....I like my stealth matte....sort of slimming.

Dirty shouldn't be a problem after all the rain we are getting these past three days/nights.

I'm hoping for an early wake up...couple glasses of water and then knock out a short ride to start the day.

Wasn't able to get out early am as hoped.

Went on maiden voyage with my son early afternoon.

All went well....except.....except....my arse. Was even wearing padded shorts...but dang that seat was uncomfortable. Good news is that my knees felt great and the riding is gonna be super.

Sweet ride Summo. These newer moutain bikes have a certain "tactical" look to them.

I lke it!

It's not just goatees. Many fat men have beards. It could be they are too lazy to shave, or they gave up caring about their appearance, or they think it hides the double chin.

Thanks folks.

The bike is lots of fun. Added a gel pad for the seat yesterday afternoon. Heading out for another ride in a few minutes.

As far as the goatee.....it isn't from being lazy....darn things are more aggravating than not having them...shaving around them becomes a game. I forget though, I'm speaking to cyclists now.....you guys aren't scared of razors. What is it with the shaving your legs thing? I never understood the purpose.

Oh well....think I got the comp. issues resloved....now to refill the water bottles and hit the trail. Adios.

Leg shaving makes it easier to clean up road rash after you crash and reduces infections from hair geiiting healed into the battle wounds.

Got it. Understand the logic.

Gel pad did somewhat better today....however the sore butt was the only thing holding me up. I did get 4 miles in.....the most I can go with the butt is about 1 mile before standing for a minute or two.

I'm sure a lot of it is just normal body break-in and the pain will diminish in time. The sweating felt great. Need to do more of it everyday!!!!

There is a very steep hill to the parking area. The work out going up that was telling. 40yrs old and outa shape but now heading in the right direction. Sure feels good to be getting there. 6 months ago and that hill would have stopped me.

My goal is to drop 50 lbs more before my next birthday. That's an aggressive goal but doable if I stay on course.

Gotta admit that I take the heroic efforts of Lance and Brett Favre to heart....very inspirational achievements by both.

Yep, the torture of the buttocks is a normal break in thing. Think of it as not being able to lift your arms the day after you first weight lifting session.

It does feel great to ride doesn't it? It is cool knowing that no matter how far you ride you are going in the RIGHT direction. The best part is, it only gets better.

Thanks.....it does feel great having that "rubbery leg feeling" as I climb the stairs back at the house. My knees are getting very little pain from this....a huge initial concern. My fears are at rest.

I found some gel pads I had from another application which I have snugged beneath the Bontrager gel pad. I'll see how that does when I ride this afternoon with my wife and son. I know it may not happen but my goal is to keep pushing until she (very fit) asks to rest for a minute.

Way to go Sumo. You can tell by your words that you are motivated. When I ride alone I will not seem to push myself like when with someone else. Keep up the great work brother.

WHOAH! DUDE, YOU ARE AN UGLY ANIMAL!.......Kidding of course!

But this matte black helmet might help. A little expensive at $130 Giro Pneumo, but I think it's cool. I only use it on organized rides!

It sure would look sweet with that bike. I love the all black scheme, black hubs, spokes, tires and frame. That's Sweet!

Don't crash and it's a non-issue.

I love the bike. With regard to your saddle issues: First is body adaptation, you're skeleton isn't accustomed to sitting on those bones and chances are that you will soon adapt to the new use. If not, don't hesitate to try different saddles. There are many different shapes because we're all shaped differently, find a brand and model that works for you. Presonally, I've found excessive use of gel padding to have more of a negative than positive impact. The thick gel products tend to distribute pressure across all the soft tissues that aren't capable of supporting weight, instead of getting it directed onto the sit bones. My wife struggled with gel covers, the thickest padded shorts she could find, etc. Until one day when I came home with a Terry womens specific, performance saddle and pair of reasonably padded performance shorts. After three rides she declared that she would never go back and asked why I hadn't forced her in this direction earlier. Despite the fact that I had spent over a year encouraging just that.

Enjoy the bike. Get out a ride every chance you get. Even a short ride is better than no ride at all.

Cheers,

A few years ago, I grew a beard (facial road rash makes shaving impossible). after a few months I thought I would get rid of it to see how things looked underneath, decided to keep a goatee, to see what it would look like. I hated that stupid thing, it's hard to keep the edges clean, so after a couple of weeks, I simply went back to clean.

I think a lot of fat guys, know they are fat, and knowing they can, they hide behind facial hair. It's similar to the commonality of beards with bald men who grow a beard to show they can grow hair....
