Crash, bang, boom....

Well, it's not me this time....

My wife and I went to Downsview Park last night for Movies Under the Stars,
a free summer movies in the park deal they do in a large field. Downsview Park (Parc Downsview in French) is a former military base, that is now an urban park. They were playing Hotel for Dogs, cute movie, I liked it, glad I didn't spend $40 on it though....

So areas of the field it plays on, due to the recent very wet weather, were heavily rutted, probably from heavy maintenance vehicles. We both have lights, so riding home after dark isn't an issue. As we were about to leave, I said to her, walk your bike until you get to the paved road. Of course she didn't listen to me, and hopped on, only to hit those ruts in the dark, and fall over. A scrapped knee and bruised elbow were the only injuries. She did get back on and ride home though, got her cleaned up, and although sore today, hope she gets back on in a day or two. I need to go over her bike looking for damage (other then a broken mirror) first.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Ouch, I hope Mrs. Wogsterca heals quickly.

$40 bucks to buy the movie or $40 to go to the movies? And I thought the movie theaters around here were a rip off, 9 dollars a ticket and another 13 for a small popcorn and soda. The soda was at least a half gallon, WTF happened to portion sizes at the movies?

Something to justify the 6 dollar price tag.

(It's been a good 10 years since the last trip to a movie theater)

Or $5 to rent it, three weeks from now.

Seriously, the cost for a couple to go to a movie these days is ridiculous, it's about $12 each to get in around here, toss in a couple of small drinks (why is a small drink about 5L) and a couple of small (2kg it seems) popcorn and it's $40..... There haven't been that many movies lately I even want to see, and even fewer that I would want to pay good money for. I divide movies into 4 categories: theatre, rental, free TV and Never.

Most of Jim Carrey's work is in the last category, and Sasha Baron Cohen is quickly adding himself to that category as well. When an actor really plays the same part over and over it's usually who they really are. In that case Jim Carrey really is a goof, Jack Nicholson really is a dirty old man, maybe Sasha Cohen really is a weird gay guy trying to make it in America.....
