Bought a used hybrid last week, new road bike today

Actually it was two weeks ago. Anyways, after having my trek 7500fx for about two weeks now, it wasn't enough. I loved the bike at first but I just wanted more. I started looking around on the internet and wanted to ride the Trek 1.5($899 on sale for triple) and the Trek 2.1 ($1100 on sale for a compact). I went to the largest trek store I know of in Columbus, Ohio and road both bikes. The sales person that helped me was knowledgeable and took his time with me, this is my first road bike. I'm about 6'1 or 6'2, he wanted me on a 56 cm but i had personally thought the 58 cm would be a better fit for me. First I road a 2009 trek 1.5 in lime green, 58 cm it was ok, didn't seem like a huge jump over my old bike (2005 trek 7500fx) did not like the shifting at all. Next I road a 2010 Trek 2.1. I liked this a little better, shifting was easier and smoother but they only had a 56cm frame and i just felt cramped up on it. I told him I wanted to think about and I would call back with wether or not to order the 2010 in a 58cm for me, I live about 50 miles from this store.
So my girlfriend and I left and decided to grab a bite to eat I started thinking about it and was just going to stop back in and order the 2010. On our way back to the store I passed another bike store, on a whim I just decided to stop. I asked the sales girl what they had comparable to the 2.1 and she showed me a specialized allez sport compact. I took it out for a spin and fell in love with it. It actually felt like a noticeable improvement from my old bike. Shifted smooth, road much nicer than both bikes and they had my frame size. Needless to say, i was sold on this bike. I paid $50 more than the 2.1 but it seems like this comes with better components then both the treks. Here's some pics, not that great but i took them on my phone at our local bike trail tonight:

There is someone in the Roadie forum that has a signature line that says something like, "Think of it as a really expensive eating disorder".

Sweet bike. So the 2010's are showing up in the shops already, or do have to get on the waiting/want list?

I ended up passing the 7500fx down to my girlfriend. She's a tiny thing so its a little big for her, but she handles it like a champ. Considering that she was riding a magna :twitchy: it was quite a big upgrade for her, and i know it will keep her on the road with me.

Plus after riding the Allez I don't think I could go back to the Trek.

I wouldn't mind having a mountain bike though

Get the CC out and buy her the exact same bike, fast. My wife and I have two of everything. So she can have a bike the fits her and the two of you will be able to ride at the same pace. If you are always way ahead of her she will start getting jealous. You always want to keep the SO happy. Then you will be happy ;-) Way cheaper in the long run

I agree 100%, take her out and let her pick out a bike for herself otherwise you'll be riding alone because she doesn't like chasing you all the time.
