    Pitted cone!

    After yesterday's 200k I was doing some work on the bike because my rear wheel felt a little wobbly. I figure, OK, go in there and tighten up the cone and be done. Well, I tighten it down and it got "crunchy" feeling... which is just as bad as loose. I pulled the drive side apart, and it's fine. The NDS, however, has a nice, big, ugly pitted gouge out of it for about 1/3 of the race.
    Hopefully I can get just that cone and some new balls for it. I really don't want to rebuild the wheel with a new hub. I'd rather just rebuild the NDS bearing assembly.

    Is there any pitting or excessive wear in the race?
    on light duty due to illness; please contact my assistants for forum issues. They are Siu Blue Wind, or CbadRider or the other 3 star folk. I am currently at home recovering from a couple of strokes. I am making good progress, happily.

    Not that I noticed, but I'll check it again before ordering any parts to see if I really do need to get a hub and rebuild the wheel. My fault entirely, really. I should have done some preventive maint. and checked the tightness of the whole thing a while ago. It was loose, and I'm sure that led to pitting out the cone.
