New bike....BUT....
My girlfriend just got me a Giant Simple Single beach cruiser. It has stock wheels, saddle, etc. I'm kinda worried about this bike being able to withstand my size (6'3" 300)..I am wondering if it would be prudent to keep the bike and buy better wheels, or get something like a Trek 720 Hybrid? (I know a local guy who is selling an older one that's in excellent condition.)

36h hub = go ride it already
After a week or two, take it back to the LBS to get the wheels re-tensioned and re-trued. This is something everybody should do after a new bike purchase.

They don't make spokes out of steel for nothing. Go ride while it's still under warranty.

I am 285lbs and I bent the rear rim of my Trek 7200. You would have to go with something that boasts stronger wheels to really be sure. The Bontrager Nebulas Trek is putting out on some of their bikes look promising, but they don't offer them outside of OEM right now.

I started riding a novara divano (road bike) when I was 309lbs and have had minimal issues with the wheels (I had my freewheel fail so they replaced the rear wheel totally under warranty). I have been surprised how well they hold up especially when I read on here *LOL*
