Week 1 down 4.2lbs..... Not the best numbers I've ever seen but its a start...... So far this week seems a little more challenging...... We're off to dinner now, were going to a local boiled seafood place for shrimp and crabs..... Tomorrow we have a party with some old friends, of which love to cook deserts....... We'll see.....

make a SOLID riding schedule and use strava!! Set your PRs then set them again, rinse and repeat.

Good job! I read through the entire thread (looks like it started a few years ago.) You went from bad to worse... got your complaining in (pity party) ... and then you got off your butt and got to work solving the problem. With the very little you posted since your 363# rant, there is an obvious change in attitude and I'm sure it correlates fairly directly with a positive outlook.

I've been there before... my wife had several miscarriages, then difficulty with getting pregnant. It never happened for us. We adopted... and it's the best thing that can happen to anyone, to have a child to take care, raise, teach, and share the most fabulous times with. For me, she is the motivation that keeps me going. She is extremely athletic and the time has come that I really can't stay with her anymore competitively... but it's still a blast to bike with her, camp, play softball, volleyball, and then just watch her participate in a myriad of other activities and interests that she has. I'm getting up there in age (50+) and she is just entering her teenage years - I'm motivated to stay fit enough to continue to be able to do things with her for several more years (I need to get her more interested in golf) and stay healthy enough to be there for her for several more decades.

And... while it's motivating to do this for her, it's pretty dang satisfying for myself, also. I have a ways to go to reach my own fitness goals... and I slide back on those, too. She knows how to get me back on track. She just says. "Dad, when are you going to lose the gut?"

I have two (depending on how you count, four) major motivators ...

One, I too went through a fairly devastating loss in late 2009. In early 2010, still grieving, I went back to my bike as a means of coping and by and large have never looked back. I dropped 40 pounds, have gained about 16 back, but I'm back on the bike after a hiatus. It's helped me physically, but also mentally, just as much.

Two (and three and four) ... I have three kids. I don't desire to be the "fat dad" who doesn't do anything fun with the kids, or worse, can't because I'm fat. And I want to live long enough to see their kids and maybe even see their kids have kids (a stretch I know).

You can do this ... keep at it, never give up

AJ,

I see you're now in NOLA. Don't know if you're ready for group rides but here's a link to a club I belong to. Click on Calendar and check out he "City Ride" on most Saturdays. It's posted like a C ride or slower, might be good motivation as it's harder to quit when you're with a group.

This is the reason my wife gave me for getting up and losing weight. But I work better with a goal in mind. So, I plan to get in shape to complete some brevets.

Everything on this list is the result of lifestyle. You can reverse this!

Insulin resistance (or pre-diabetes) and and has been reversed. I did it. 5 years and now Dr. says to stop considering myself insulin resistant. As you rebuild yourself, you'll be able to tolerate more and more carbs w/o unhealthy effects.

New muscle tissue does not inherit the damage of over exposure to insulin.
But this does mean that one must limit carbs, particularly simple (see insulin response curves) and timing... during ride, or upon waking when blood sugar is low and glycogen stores are depleted the best time to have your carb allocation for the day.

Building new muscle, well... resistance work, like lifting weights is the path I took, seems most direct.

Plantar Fasciitis can be rough, My SO had this, mostly beaten... it is rough, and painful and if not addressed can be crippling. She tried the standards, cortisone, anti-inflammatories (she didn't tolerate them). Diet, stretching, the boot, and exercise has it well in hand...

You pretty much have a choice, change and change now...
Or buy a lot of disability and life insurance to protect your family.

YOU CAN DO THIS, You have help and support (here), and you have the best reasons to to do it (just imagine your daughter's smile!)...
It is just a matter of IF you will do it.

Hey guys I'm here. I last posted in July 2013, I only got worst from then. Its funny though, my wife and myself recently hit rock bottom and decided to make drastic change. The first step for this new change was YESTERDAY we went to a nutritionist. We are also starting a 10 juice fast tomorrow. Once we finish the fast and our bodies are detoxed we will slowly start to incorporate high quality organic food back into our diets, much as we did before. I'm highly motivated and confident at this time WE WILL SUCCEED!!!

BTW: Incase you were wondering I weighed in yesterday 384 lbs. Which is basically starting back where I was 4-5 years ago.....

OP, hope and faith, finding inner peace, not stressing out, sticking with your plan, keep setting little goals and hitting them, step by step things will come to fruition. In the last 5 years I have :quit drinking, lost a long term relationship because i quit drinking, was injured and suffered a concussion which wiped out my short term memory and caused all kinds of anxiety and depression which thankfully I have mostly healed from, contracted a lethal Staph infection that got into my blood, put me in the hospital for a week and came very close to killing me, the doctors had to cut a chunk of necrotic tissue out of my ass cheek which took a year to heal, been up and down on work, seen my son through almost 4 years of college so far, lost nearly 50 lbs, stopped eating meat and increased my riding to over 200 miles a week on a MTB, I am scheming on what it's going to take to get into a good road bike and start working towards distance racing. I have set and reached goals that I never in a million years could envision even a couple of years ago. At one point I wanted to die, now I am far and away the best shape physically and spiritually that I have ever been in my life. I will be 44 in a couple of months. I still stress but as soon as I throw my leg over that top tube, the world can go screw itself. I see guys all over the place that are in their 60's and are tearing up the local roads, guys that are in outrageous shape who can smoke younger guys without trying. Spiritual healing, balance, love, exercise, keys to a long and happier life. Please keep us updated

My weight keeps going up and I don't understand why. I'm up 2 lbs overnight. I ate 1800 calories yesterday. I went to spin class. At my 270-ish weight I imagine my BMR to be at least 2500 calories. I had at LEAST a 1000-calorie deficit. How that turns into a 2 lb gain I dunno. I'm up about 5lb over the last 5 days, and I only had one bad day as far as food goes. On Sunday I did a 40 mile ride in the rain. I got an "EPIC" suffer score on Strava. I just don't understand. If it really IS calories in vs calories out then I should be losing.
