Couple things come to mind. How do you feel? What type of scale are you using? I find my bathroom scale notoriously inaccurate, and it fluctuates depending on how i stand on it sometimes.... But it really should be as simple as less in=weight loss.

How do you know it's not water? After a spin class or a 40 mile ride I'd be drinking a lot of water myself.

OK, you have vented, you have gotten it off your chest and you have received lots of good and encouraging advice. Now, the rest is up to you.

You need to start back on the path of physical activity or, as you have said, you may not live to see 40.

We all have crosses to bear, some heavier than others. In the, however, it is up to each one of us to make healthy choices.

I do not have specific advice to give you because I do not have enough details about your situation. But if you need an occasional friendly kick in the arse, followed by an atta boy, let me know. I have been through a lot of crap myself and I know how it feels.

Hang in there bro and good luck to you and your wife.

Uhm,

I vary +/- 5 lbs based upon, uhm. well... uhm... if I've had a good "read" in the reading room...

Short term variation could easily be that or proper hydration.

Hydration is GOOD weight.

Also it is MOST definitely NOT calories calories out. The body responds differently to different foods. Also severe calorie deficit cause a reduction in metabolism. It is best to avoid this starvation mode as your body will preserve fat and burn muscle.

One reason low carb has such a HUGE initial weight loss is the reduction in glycogen at the onset. Stored carbs like water, so for each gram of carbs there is 6 grams of water... Eliminate the carbs stored the water goes with them showing a large initial loss... But if you restore your carbs in storage you also retain more water, and get an increase on the scale disproportionate to the calories....

Don't get discouraged. Just keep on keeping on.
Ignore short term variations, too many things can influence the short term number.
It is the trend that matters.
It is a long game, not a short one.

If you keep doing the right things you will get the results over time.

I was putting on 1Lb/day over 5 days. Very odd and very frustrating.

Right, but on this diet I went from 460 to 235. So it's worked in the past, but it seems like the more I exercise the less it works.

Exactly. And given that after X-mas I bought a Withings scale I have pretty graphs showing my daily weigh in for over a month now.

Well, I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow. Maybe we can figure it out.

I will presume you weren't up 3600 calories a day for 5 days.

So that leaves either hydration or ...

again, it's the trend.

But yeah, I would give it a good think... and maybe see a doctor, as sudden water retention can be a very bad sign. I ?think? it would be much more then 5 lbs to consider an emergency for me as I have few cardiac risk factors.

Have you checked your BP and legs for edema?

Let us know Jackie what your doc says. I am inclined to think it is water weight too as by now you must be really pretty darn accurate at calorie counting and figuring out what you burn. After losing a lot of weight I find it extremely difficult to keep the proper balance and a lot of exercise does not make it easier, I am just hungrier. I gained weight back for a while. Now I have been flat for a couple of months. I trying to see what eating to maintain a certain weight and certain exercise level feels like. It feels hungry. In a month or two I'll cut back on calories again for maybe a month and then hold that weight for a bit to see how that works.

It seems that interval type workouts reduce the compensatory eating.

I think it was in this book:
The First 20 Minutes: Surprising Science Reveals How We Can Exercise Better, Train Smarter, Live Longer
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/014...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Which is a marvelous read. Unfortunately I'm blanking on the person's name (a member here). I am very grateful for this referral. I would suggest this read for anyone with a body.

Yeah, that may be true.

https://www.metaboliceffect.com/how-t...with-exercise/

Some indication that there is less hunger with short, high intensity exercise and with very low intensity activity as compared with more moderate intensity exercise.

Hey guys just wanted to update. It will be 4 weeks this Wednesday since starting our lifestyle change and I am down 26 lbs thus far. I'm feeling pretty good, I have noticed the past few days I have had a negative attitude am working on changing that otherwise feeling good. One thing that sucks about eating Organic food is finding restaurants.
