Did LSD today, just might do it again..

Hey everyone... I've been a lurker on here but this is my first time posting in the Clydesdale section. I am 44, 5'10 and just weighed myself at 240#. I just got back into cycling after a long hiatus and am enjoying myself quite a bit. I have dropped about 15# so far and am targeting a fit 215-220. I started riding again seriously a couple of months ago, starting out on a vintage Basso and recently upgrading to a Klein frame with Campy stuff. The old Basso is a classic but didn't really like a heavy rider when climbing or sprinting.

Anyway, back to my point, I have been getting into better shape, but in doing so I have found myself watching the little cycle speedo and concentrating on keeping that pace arrow pointing up almost obsessively lol. So today, I just stuck it in my pocket (wireless so it still tracks) and out of sight. And I just rode. I took the little side roads off my usual loop that I had been curious as to where they led but didn't "have the time" to check out before. I rode and I looked around and I saw old cars in the back of yards, new cars in the driveways, ladies in bikini's lounging around their pools, dog's on chains who would love to have gotten a bite in on me. Good stuff.

And when I look at my cycle computer, I had ridden much further than I thought and my avg speed wasn't off much at all. My point is after all of this babbling: just have fun, do a little LSD now and then. Smell the proverbial roses and enjoy cycling for what it is: rider and bike. Fitness is just a side benefit :) oh, incase you are wondering: LSD - Long Slow Day

Wel, you sure got my attention with that thread title. :p

Yeah, I could stand more of that version, myself. :p :D

I thought that I was the only one who wrote grabbing tread titles. Anyway, I know what you mean by just taking a road that you have never been on to see what is there. Some of the most fun rides are ones that are not tightly planned. :thumb:

So true. My better half and I did a ride a few weeks ago and discovered that the city had expanded Fish Creek park and added some new trails. So we meandered down into the unknown and got to see an osprey perched on a tree top looking for lunch, and some white pelicans gliding down the river. We had no idea pelicans ever came here. We'd never have seen either if we stuck to our original planned ride.

That title to this thread really caught me at first. I remember when I got my first road bike the salesman told me to do LSD rides. I was concerned what he meant at first but it turned out he meant Long, Steady, Distance.

I used to love to hit LSD...but that was Lake Shore Drive for me in Chicago.

I was hoping you were tripping while riding.

Now, THAT would have been a ride report.

LSD, that's O-L-D!:p

just make sure that wherever you're going, you can always get back. Unless of course you don't want to, then make sure you're not riding in circles. either case, always carry a compass (I have one on my bell, it goes ding and shows me where to go)
