Hitting the Road!
I guess once I get off my own street no one will know me so I won't feel to, to embarrassed.
I am 50, 5'9", and 250lbs.
My goal is to get mean and lean by the spring of 2010 and FLY on my new bike!
Weights, and Treadmill have been my friend faithfully most of my life so I really don't feel out of it cardio and strength wise.
Recent Stress and Diet of the last two years got me, a change in my Diet should really start the melting process.
My "butt" looks pretty Corn Fed right now
I just purchased a brand new Corvette, and when I look down at my car seat, I almost fill it, just shy of an 1' or two and this is unacceptable
After looking at the various manufacturers I have narrowed my choice down to a Road Bike by Cannondale.
This is the model that I have decided on and will be paying a visit to the Shop next week.
Synapse Carbon 5
Any Advice, for this new fat guy? And yes Great Forums!

Can't go wrong with a Vette! I recently started riding and made a change in my diet at the same time. On the plus side, the price of chicken breasts is pretty good right now! After putting in all the work on the road, I'm not tempted to ruin it by eating junk. Anyway, my advice would be to just start logging some miles and not worry about competing with anyone but yourself. I started with 8-10 miles rides to get familiar with the bike and how to ride it. My bike computer is a trusted training aid and helps me keep the bike in the proper gear by monitoring my cadence (I shoot for 85-95 range). Let your body tell you when it's time to add some distance. I've been riding almost two weeks now and did a 23 mile ride last weekend so I figured I'd try a 35 mile ride today. Took me 2 hours 15 minutes and I finished the ride but my legs are letting me know I wasn't ready for it. Live and learn, I suppose. Oh, and I've lost 6-7 lbs already so I know it's working!

Don't feel embarrassed. Just get out and ride. I was 5'10" 250 when I started. The weight melted off to around 220. Cycling is such a great (and fun) way to lose weight and stay in shape. I've never felt better. The only advice I have is to invest in a good set of wheels. That's the most important equipment upgrade for a Clyde. I found a good wheel builder at my local bike shop and had him build me a set of wheels to suit my size and riding style.

Sell your Vette.
Cycling will allow you to have a much better mid life crisis!
It is not the engine you buy but the engine you own for the rest of your life that counts.
As others have said "Welcome"
