Labor day ride: Where did you go?

Did you get a ride in today, if so, where did you go?

My buddy and I took a ride out to the San Xavier del Bac mission in Tucson.

It was a fun and fast ride.

What about you?

Rode to downtown Garland this morning, and watched the Labor Day Parade- some pics in the Road forum, on Machka's thread about weekend rides.

Due to worsening shoulder problems, I've cut down to commuting only.
No miles today....just lots of sleep and Ibuprofen.
Would have been a good morning for a ride though. Absolutely beautiful!!

No ride today. Drove home 2 hours, was going to ride, decided I would go to my family picnic. Should have gone for a ride instead. Riding is going to be short this week. The lawn needs mowing and I have a bike to assemble before the weekend for my younger brother, Brand new frame and a bunch of used parts from a bike I had but cracked the frame...Will be a great bike for his use, and help clean crap out of the basement. Less bike parts = more space for my bikes to be stored!

I started running a low-grade fever on Thursday night at work. Since we are short-staffed at the moment I couldn't call off on Friday, so I worked through it. Saturday I was too ill to even drive to the start of the planned 50 mile ride with Bautieri I'd looked forward to for a month. Aside from sweating, reading classic true crime stories, and sleeping, I haven't done anything interesting until today. This evening I got in three miles of hiking at Mill Grove, the John James Audubon home.

Blue Trails 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and the fire road out. Oakley Corners State Forest, NY. Me, and the dog. She was faster than I was on the climbs. By a lot.

No road ride today. Intended to, but got busy GTD and suddenly it was too late.

Only 10 miles today, will pick up 20 more tomorrow. It was raining and I was beat from staying up late with the GF, so I just cooled off for a quick ride, spent a little while cleaning the bike and chain after the grimy ride. Clean as a whistle now and ready for tomorrow.

I did a short ride today, only about 16km, I have to get back to night mode as I start work at midnight, spent much of the day trying to get shifted around, was unsuccessful to a large degree though.... After 2¾ years of working nights again, I am sick of it, I gotta start looking for a day job.....

I got 20 miles in today... my plan was to do 30+ but had things to do around the house and then go to a nephew's B-day party.

I didn't ride today but I did ride this past week. After various misadventures involving a broken fuel pump, a $175 'free' tow from AAA and a $700 repair bill, I drove down to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and rode my mountain bike out to Point Sublime with my daughter.

On the way

The North Rim, at 8800 feet, is about 2000 ft higher than the South Rim and is much more alpine then desert. Right at the rim, the desert takes over but just a few feet to a few miles from the rim, the vegetation and climate are more like Colorado's forests.

But it's dramatically desert at the rim with junipers and pinyon pine, agave and horned lizards.

The agave is at the end of its life with a flower spike of about 10 ft tall and the horned lizard is one is this year's hatchlings.

Point Sublime sticks out into the canyon quite a way and is very dry. We got to see storms all around us but we stayed dry for the most part. We did get treated to one of the best rainbows I've ever seen.

The moonset the next day wasn't anything to sneeze at either.

I was at a music festival all weekend in LeMars, IA. I just was riding around the park talking to others and listening to others play when we were not playing on the stages. I did get to see this one though. Not an original, but a replica.

Well you got everyone beat IMO... amazing view/pics/ride! Sorry about the repair bill, at least you made up for it with memorable moments .

San Xavier, that's the mission with the Indian Fry bread and the little open air market arts and crafts thingy? Been there 2 or 3 times. Climbed the hill too!

That is the one. I didn't even think about doing that hill on the side because it is dirt. We did do a small amount of climbing before we went down there, though.

I wanted to post some pics but don't have them from step-sister-in-law yet.

Mrs. Zoxe and I hit the Blueberry Bicycle Tour again this year. We did the 31 mi event (which turned into 33.5 after we rode to/from the start/finish area from my folks' house). We got her step mom and step sister to go with us.

This is a good clean tour through some rolling hills in Northern Indiana. Next year we'll tackle the 41mi or perhaps the 63mi version.

Visited where I grew up this past weekend and got my fill of Philly Cheesesteaks everyday and took a ride on some roads I used to ride when I was kid through areas known as Cedars, Skippack, Lederach, Spring Mount, and Harleysville, Pennsylvania. Thought there used to be hills there but I guess from riding up the mountains out here in Central PA made the hills not seem as unpleasant as they were when I was a kid. Rode about 1/4 mile on the Perky trail on the other side of Spring Mount, near the Old Poole farm where the Philly Folk Festival is held, but wasn't very pleasant on my skinny tired road bike so I hopped off back onto the roads. Weather was awesome. Brought back many memories except there is much more traffic on the roads I used to know as backroads because of the developments that popped up in the last 20 years. About 30 miles when all said and done. On my way home last night I got a call that I left my riding shoes there so no riding for me until I make the trip back.
