My first ride...
from my home....
Well yesterday I invited a friend from my bike club, C4 over for a bike ride and dinner. I drove the route to the bike path nearby and it was hilly! So when Carol arrived I told her we should drive to the start of the path. She was horrified and shocked that I would ride 3 Gap in North GA but could not ride my neighborhood...so needless to say - we hopped on our bikes and pedaled to the trail!
Quite a few hills on the way there (Much fewer/easier on the way back .But I was very pleased with us that we could ride over and hop on the trail! Plus probably a great way to meet people in my neighborhood!
We did a 29.5 mile ride and it was great to bring MY garage door opener with us and just ride back home, open the door and get off bike...no car involved. I have been riding for a year and have always started each ride with a car ride....
Sorry no pics- I will do that soon. Dinner was from the Barefoot Contessa's recipes... Swordfish on the grill with a tomato sauce (tomatoes, onion, fennel, garlic, capers...) with Apricot Basmati Rice, Grilled Cherry tomatoes...and dessert: Grilled Peaches then baked in Triple Sec and Dark Run and sugar with Vanilla Icecream. (I may get in trouble over on the Biggest Loser Thread- but you guys won't tell will ya?)

Congratulation on the ride.
Hey you just got it figured out.
Garage door opener belongs on your bike.

Congratulations!
I have a strong distaste for driving, well known to my friends. I hate starting a ride, or a hike, by driving, and then having to drive home. For various reasons I'd really rather hike, but most of my exercise here comes from mountain biking because I can ride the 5 to 10 miles to the mountain fire road and then keep on going. Then I just ride home and pass all the folks stuck in traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway... while dodging roller skaters and various other obstacles on the bike path.

Good to see your posts again. I start most of my rides from home. When I don't I always forget something

I start almost all of my rides from my front door. Last Saturday, I rode 30 miles each way to go on a 30 mile group ride.

I start my rides from home as well. I have a key fob garage door remote that tucks easily into my jersey pocket. Driving to start a ride is like using the elevator at the gym to get to the second floor to use the stair machine.

The one thing I love about where my I live. For one, its a pretty rural area, and second I live within feet of a paved bike trail (pretty much a MUP if you head east as it goes through a few subdivisions). If I wanted to ride just the trail I have 25 miles (with stop signs) right next to my house.

But for the bike clubs and organized rides I find around here, it always seems to be the case that every ride they plan involves them driving and starting in some out of the way place. Granted, they did do 3 out of the 12 rides this year where I could have rode to the start. The rest would have turned into imperial century rides (or more), and I'm not to that point yet. But not driving for a ride seems more unusual than the norm for what I've witnessed so far.

I'll be stopping by for dinner.
Believe it or not....I've never driven to the start of a ride. Every ride has started at my house. I need to get out more.
