cant win for losing

hey all a while back i posted about riding to lose weight and fight diabeties, i was also diagnosed with graves disease= hyper thyroidism, had my weight down to 230 my a1c was 7.5, alot of the aches and pains in my legs and feet were going away, doing all the good, then boom sudden and rapid weight gains, just got back from texas tech medical center in lubbock tx, endocrinologist did a full exam of me from my toe nails up to my eyeballs, my weight is up to 300 again, but my a1c is 6.0, heart lungs good, but the hyperthyroidism which was controlled decided to go into hypothyroidism, and also my kidneys now leaking proteins, good news is the specialist says im in pretty decent shape considering and to keep on riding, just thought i'd do a update on my progress if anyone was interested

yea still able to ride, luckily my bike is capable of handling the extra stress of the extra weight lol, the dr has called in a treatment plan of somekind of hormone therapy and feels that i will be feeling better and closer to normal again in the next couple of months once we get the hormone levels where they need to be, and the kidneys, got me on a med for it wants me to take in a while then retest again, before he decides a plan of action on it, and actually getting on the bike when i did is probably the only thing that kept this from being worse than it is, also i can ride as much as i want unless i have chest pains or palpations and so far i have had neither

well both my primary care dr and the specialist are new to me, both my previous drs both decided to retire at the same time and neither did a very good job at referring me to anyone, luckily i know a few people in the medical profession and they just pointed me in the right direction, if i was as smart 20 years ago as i think am now, most of these problems going on would of probably been avoided, but when your young who the hell needs a dr? lol

I'm glad it's not worse. That's awsome that you can keep riding, and that it's helping. Keep us posted on your progress.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Yep, better late than never, LG. Good to see that yo9u and the Dr's are taking an aggressive approach to endocrine disease. I know how sneaky it is, and how the general public perceives those of us that have these conditions. I have a pituitary disorder, for example, and had gained a huge amount of weight in very short order.

My little sister was 100lbs all through high school. I had to beat the boys away, then something went wrong with her thyroid and she shot up to 300lbs. I know she dosn't eat like a pig and awhile back they found this problem and corrected it, she dropped 90lbs in months. ECB1

it sux the big one! just when you think you have it under control, it does a 180 and have to start from scratch, im just grateful that it hasnt affected my diabetes, although im watching it like a hawk, i worked to hard to get my a1c down to where it is! several months ago dr was thinking about insulin as treatment after he had to give me 2 injections to get my sugar low enough to register, that scared me

Congrats on taking control of your health. Many just sit by and let themselves go. We all have to play the cards that we are dealt by genetics. Take me, for example, I'm not very smart but I'm incredibly good looking (not).

Keep riding and keep fighting the good fight.

Hey LG, how's the weather trating you guys out that way? I'll be out yor way on the 9th and 10th spliting time between Lubbock and Plainview.

It's amzing what Gremlins we can help keep at bay by just not riding. It's not all about weight loss when you have more than one mountain to climb. Best of luck and don't be a stranger.

thanks txv, i am starting to feel the extra weight on my joints, but trying to use it to my advantage more brisk walking, short burst of quick jogs, almost like wearing a loaded backback for more resistance, so far my heart and lungs dont seem stressed by it, but my energy level has dropped pretty good, started my first day of hormone therapy this morning, so hopefully soon?

im actually in southeast new mexico about 100 miles from lubbuck, this time of year is best, days started cooling off a couple of weeks ago, been hanging around the low to mid 80's, nights are chiily high 50s to low 70s, if you gonna haul your bike here with you be prepared, windstorms fairly common here, usually dont see much change in weather til around halloween but seems fall comming early this year
