Wide Footed Clydesdale Looking for Road Shoe Advice

I wear a size 48 or 49 wide cycling shoe. Does anyone have any recommendations for a moderately priced (below $200) road shoe?

I can't remember anything in the sub-$200 category. Sidi and Specialized both make shoes in wide widths, but I believe they're over $200.

www.lakeshoes.com try them direct, plenty of selection. Some on-line stores stock them but the site's better. They've a help desk. I use them. I can't use much else. What I also like about them is that they're adequately snug at the heel. I have wide, meaty feet and a slightly higher instep than average.

Give up and use regular shoes and BMX pedals, maybe with Powergrips. Really wide shoes are pain to find and very expensive.

Funny.. I did just that on one bike. Power Grips, Al. block pedals with the nubs.
Actually though, the particular Lake Shoes I chose offer stiff soles, walkability AND they suit the PG set up as well as Frog pedals. lake has eveerything from the Hush Puppy type to the really stiff racing shoes as well as inbetween. Some are on sale.

Sidi

You can always find a Sidi road shoe on clearance. Especially big sizes (over 48). Keep looking...

However, I wouldn't be focused on a road shoe.

Get a Sidi mountain bike shoe and use Bebop pedals. You'll have a better version of a Speedplay X series pedal but you won't be walking on a cleat all the time...

You then have the same pedal on your mountain bike, commuter, road bike, 'cross bike, tandem, you name it.

Definitely the way to go with big feet especially if you need narrow or wide widths. You don't want to have to shell out big moolah for every bike...

Shimano road shoes tend to run wide. I wear an 11-EE street shoe. I bought the SH-R086L model one size larger than the chart indicated and it fits me very well. I've ridden over 1,700 miles in them since June 1 and have had no problems, hot spots, etc. I think I paid $110 (full retail) at my LBS.

I actually managed to fit my wide feet in a normal-width SIDI. I also found the pair on sale for $70 or so. It shocked the hell out of me, because I never fit in the normal width nor do I find my shoes on sale.

I wear 11.5 EEs and the Specialized Comp MTB shoes fit very well (had to go up a few sizes though).

I just ordered a pair of Lake CX190's. Here's to hoping they fit my freaky wide high-arched feet. Last year I was diagnosed with "Rigid Cavus Foot Deformity." It's a little weird for a guy to hear that he has a deformity, but I've lived with it for going on 40 years. All this time I just thought I had crazy looking feet. If I knew I was "deformed" I would have acted differently.
