I get to have surgery on my deviated septum. The Dr. says that I can't ride for 7-10 days, and the wife says it will be longer, like a month. I am just hoping to have clear breathing passages. Any one ever have one of these, and would be willing to share their experience?

I had that done about 15 years ago, but in my case, they also had to fix my nose itself. The surgeon explained that part by saying it would be like fixing the walls in a house that was leaning...thanks doc

Anyway, if your experience is like mine, which it very well may not be, it will be closer to a month. I don't know how much of the pain was attributable to the nose versus the septum, but my guess is the nose had a huge role in it.

I spent 2 weeks sleeping in a recliner. Lying flat seemed to create too much painful pressure in my sinus area. Another issue was eating and drinking, especially right after the surgery. Don't make the mistake of trying to suck a smoothie through a straw!

With that said, in spite of it being one of the most painful experiences of my life, I am glad I had it fixed. If you can't breath through your nose you will never sleep well and that is no small problem. Hang in there and just remember that you'll get through it and it will be worth it!!

Well it can't get much worse since I currently can't breath through my nose. So it's the current arrangement is to clean out sinus pockets, straighten the septum, and do something with my nose. So a month off, here comes the love handles. This should be fun, will take advice on the smoothie, was planning on a shake.

I had the sinus pockets and the deviated septum done about 15 years ago. If I could do it again I never would have done it. Not to steer you away from getting it done, I just had a bad experience.

The worse part about it is going in to get the gauze packing taken out. I never would of thought that they could get that much gauze in each nostril but it will make you tear up and start coughing while they are pulling it out. Hopefully your doctor is wearing his/her lab coat when they do it unlike mine. He wasn't wearing his coat and pulled the gauze out and when the blood started coming I coughed the blood all over him LOL. The other thing that is weird is the stitches that are holding the two pieces of plastic together as a splint, kind weird seeing that stuff pulled out LOL.

I ended up with two black eyes. It has never really made an improvement for me. I was able to breathe through my nose before the surgery just not as good as it should have been. If you can't breathe at all through your nose now then the surgery should help.

I would say at least two weeks and you could be back in the saddle riding at an easy pace and after a month you will be good to go.
