    "Turtleing" - a possible cause?

OK, I had a turtleing experience on the C & O on Monday. I set off riding on the cold towpath and noticed I wasn't well 'down there' after a couple of miles. When I dismounted and blood began to return to the region I discovered my tights weren't in fact tight. These were a pair I bought last year from Nashbar on sale, and in order to get the right waist size I had to buy a "tall" fit. Well, I must not have noticed the shoulder straps had become too long when I wore them last winter, but they now were, and the butt and chamois sagged instead of fitting close to me. A couple of minutes pulling up the straps and tying a knot in them made everything tight again, and I rode with little problem the rest of the day.

This incident makes me wonder just how often complaints about shorts bothering the rider are due to the shorts being too large or too loose?

I was gonna say "Turtleing" means something else where I come from, but we're from the same area so..... Actually it could mean a coupla different things. "Cold towpath" I thought you were going somewhere else with it. 'Course you coulda meant you were "prairie doggin' " which is something else entirely. Anyway... wow... I've said too much.

Loose shorts lead to irritation and sores.

My first pair of quality bibs opened a whole new world to me. Suddenly I could understand how those other guys could ride for miles and miles without complaining about discomfort.

A couple of days ago I did 32 miles, my longest to date. No sores, no rear end pain or discomfort at all.

From an ass standpoint, I'm ready for a century. Now if I can just get the rest of my body to go along with it!!

Quality, well fitting bibs/shorts are key to being comfortable on a bike.

On a serious note, I think "turteling" would be caused by too loose of shorts. I haven't experienced the so far unexplained phenomena yet but I have also only ridden with bike shorts once for 30 miles.

I think the key is to have the right size shorts/bibs and keep them pulled up and having the noodle to one side or the other.

    That's my $.02
