Whiner Alert

So, we are supposed to have the best riding temps (and absolutely beautiful weather) this week after several weeks of gloom and rain. Lows in the 50's with highs in the 70's

And I'm rotting away inside the casa with the dreaded FLU!
GRRRRR!

Just when I was feeling healed up enough to get my mileage back up!

I feel ya on the flu thing. You have the stomach thing going around?

I'm scheduled to be crutch free by the end of the week. The earliest I can hope for the Doc to release me to ride is the end of the first week of November.

I predict a covert around the block trip before then, just make sure the bike is ready and all....

Maybe tomorrow if the fever breaks, 102 fever with teh "hold on to the wall to keep from falling please would you keep the room from spinning" equilibrium weirdness leads to a not so good cycling experience.
(Thought I'd ride into work on Sunday and made it halfway down my street before having the world turn wobbly, dismounting, and leaning on the bike as I stumbled back home and into bed.)
This flu is baaaad mojo, bro'.

Actually, the fever is slowly coming down (yay Motrin!) and I might ride the hardrock (nearer the ground) round the block once or twice and see if I survive.

Nope I did the digestive version 2 weeks ago.
This is the respiratory stuff traveling into the chest with a side of fever.

We'll have to get together for a "Tour De Block" sometime.

Funny that you mention that. I know everybody is different but about a month ago, I had the same problem but maybe from something I ate. Gina made a vey spicy tasty dish that night. Not only was it spicy but she must have been angry cause the salsa she made was H-O-T! I wasn't expecting it to be so hot so I packed it on the spicy dish. By the end of the night, my head was spinning. The morning, still headspins. I figured Ihad nothing to lsoe so I went out for a short ez 10 miler thinking it just might help. Once I got on the bike, I was fine. I ended up doing 40 miles! Not so sure if it was the fact that I was feeling good or just scared to stop!

Moral of the story, go eat some salsa, you have nothing to lose !

I use to have a kick ass recipe for chicken and rice soup involving curry powder, jalapenos, and a large-ish quantity of white pepper. MMMMMmmmmm, Good! Perfect for sweating out a fever and unclogging the upper respiratory system.

Trouble is, it makes 5 gallons and I haven't been able to reduce the ingredients and make it taste right in smaller quantities. (Use to have a small restaurant)

Just going to take a shower and have a neighborhood cruise to test how I feel...

Hey I'm here to help! I'd be more than willing to take a bunch of that soup off your hands. You know, just so you don't have to worry about storage or anything...

Went to the Doc today and got the good news......I don't have the flu.

The bad news is that I have pneumonia instead. (I tell ya....it just keeps getting better)
So I have some high powered antibiotics and an Advair inhaler. Temp is still 102.
I've been grounded from riding for the next 2 weeks.
(Blah)

Blah, indeed.

Can we hurry up and get 2009 behind us already? I was thinking about the 2009 goals thread from late last year, I'm ready for a fresh start in 2010.

Amen to that!!!
It doesn't look like I'll come close to last year's mileage.
I keep having to postpone my pedal south to Riviera, TX due to not building up enough base mileage.
If I recover soon...I may be able to meet my goal of riding my age before the year is out. A 50 mile ride should be doable before the end of the year.

I guess I should look on the bright side....with all the coughing, my core muscles are getting a GREAT workout.
Abbs and Intercostals of Steel baby!
Now If I didn't feel quite so dented....

I'll make ya a deal. If I can get cleared by early November to get back on the bike again I'll do the age thing with you. Just promise me the last 4 miles after my age to get to your age isn't up hill and there is no time limit

I saw, somewhere on the interwebs, an all downhill century......

Yeah, a flat and boring 50 is just about my speed right now. (may have to involve a hotel stay in the middle)
Either that, or have the midpoint be the highest section to make the finish survivable.

Heck, even my ol' 15 mile MUP ride is starting to sound good right now.

*backs out of the thread before all of the flu/pneumonia germs jump on her*

I feel for you. I had a horrible flu this year but luckily it was over Christmas so not only did it not interfere with riding but I avoided loads of get togethers I wanted to avoid. Like the plague actually!

I hope you recover soon.

Wasn't the run from Starbucks to the end of the MUP and back around 23 miles or so? We could do it twice and throw in a chowder stop. A few extra miles would be easy enough to find.

There's always the donut cruise, three times

That sounds a lot like Swine Flu.

BY the way, the wife is home from her little bout with it now.

Tested for the flu, but came back negative.

The recovery time for the big P Is teh major bucket o' suck.

Glad to hear the wife is safely back home from her bout.
