Monday afternoon in the Pain Palace

Took another Monday afternoon off and rode Skyline Drive with a friend. My first real "mountain" ride I think. Compared to Mt Weather these climbs were lllloooonnnggggg.

About halfway up any one of the climbs, unable to get enough air and legs burning, I was asking myself why I would do such a thing. As soon as we finished.. I was thinking about when we could do it again!!!

Cycling is fookin awesome.

The profile and grade from my Garmin.. grade gets a bit wonky at times.. max was probably 12 or so.

The Scattante at altitude..

yes, I was actually riding the bike...

Bit hazy, but awesome fall color

Helmet hair shadow after the descent to the parking lot..

I like it more all the time. It was a lesser version ("COMP" - 105 and Alex rims stock) model that I picked up for a shade under $1300 on sale. I've since upgraded the wheels, drivetrain, saddle, seatpost, handlebars and stem (fitting) -- it's now pretty much like the version that comes with DA and EA90s (Cane Creeks Volos XL's aren't quite as spiffy as EA90s, but they are Clyde friendly and were on sale).

I think the only really bad thing about Scattante's is the name.

I've had mine for about a month or so and I'm really enjoying it. I noticed you changed up the drive train and wheels.

Great pics btw!!

And, yes the name does suck. I refer to mine as "Scat Bike".

How was the traffic? I've never braved Skyline Drive during leaf peeping season. A buddy of mine went up there for a hike over the weekend, and he said it looked like the line to get into the gate was about a mile long...

not to bad. we went in around 1P on Monday - maybe 4 cars in line. I heard someone at the gas station say it was much worse later in the PM.
