Well, I have to eat my words. Someone caught up to me on the climb. We briefly exchanged words. As he went ahead I could tell he was hurting. I was also hurting, but I could sense that I could catch him. I did and I think he was surprised that I was able to get back to him. He lifted the pace. I fell back a bit, but within the last mile I lifted the tempo and we finished together. Pretty cool.

That was a great read. I've never been a particularly competitive rider, I'm in my own world, but I do love it when an arrogant idiot gets some truth.

+1 to this thread. I'm new to cycling and don't see the adhoc drafting thing. The zen of a small paceline I can understand, but someone just sucking your wheel without saying anything makes no sense. After all, aren't we in this for fitness? Different story if you're on a long ride, spent and someone comes along who can give you a bit of help, but for pete's sake at least ask and if you're near the end of your ride just pull up alongside and say "thanks".

My wife and I had a strange wheelsucker experience on our tandem which I won't reiterate here, but after 15 miles a "thanks" would be nice.

Embarressed for the guy

Beanz,

FUNNY story! LOL...I was embarressed for the guy because he is too stupid to know to be embarressed for himself. Isn't it funny how you will be the "bigger person" but they just
know how to get under your skin. I was glad the story went where it did with you and your wife putting it to him! TOO FUNNY!! Sad part is...he is still a "Legend in His Own Mind" and will
still believe he is A GREAT RIDER! You probably figured out by accident...if you punish him like that 3 or 4 times more like that he will quit wanting to jump in with you.

Good riding!
Monty

Right on Umpire! Too often a rider will mistake a long consistent pace an ride plan for weakness! Sometimes you gotta drop the hammer to 'em!

I did read your story rdtompki, like you say, I have actualy offered or suggested that other riders take my wheel as they look totally spent. Some do and some don't but it's different when their main goal is to suck "your" wheel then Beat "you" without "you"knowing about it!

Yes, a thank you is nice!
