Ride in the Mnts with Fellow Clyde Hillbasher

So I get the call late lastnight, "Dude, you want some of me?" Eek! Sounds serious so yeah, ok! I wasn't planning on it but what the heck! Again, another one of those guys,"I'm old, I'm slow, I can't climb" then they try to rip your legs off! After our last ride I'm thinking HB must have been sandbaggin' last week cause this week his was blazin'! Weather was nice but pretty (you kow whatin') windy on a few sections. Going across eastfork was like climbing GMR. Well after my lungs settle in and I warm up, it turns out to be a nice ride since we are both pretty much at about the same level for Clydes!

The plan is to do Big GMR, eastfork, hwy 39 to west fork, do west fork then back down. But as we reach westfork, worker dude says it's closed but we can take our chances since all signs say "closed". My luck, I'm getting the one and only ticket handed out to a cyclist. I can't afford a $500 ticket and I can't aford to be deported so I pass on that section. So we headed up towards the gate heading out to Crystal Lake since I have even driven that directionin over 20 years. Wow, I didn't realize it was that civilized. I was expecting a one lane dirt road shabby ride. We ride up to the gate just to check it out and again, wow! HilBasher offers to ride with me up to Crystal Lake but not today. I haven't go the water and not so sure about drinking form the spring eventhough HB says it's fine. I'm just not a risk taker. I tell HB that I'd be a little more excited about the climb if we were to start at Encanto and work our way up. SO who knows, maybe soon! All in all a good day and a good ride other than the windy sections heading DOWN (?) Hwy 39! OH oh oh, and after heading back across Sierra Madre, having to climb that little hill by Boulder Springs is painful, ouch!

Smoke in the background is from the bike, not the machinery!

Making his move for the breakaway!

He's gone!

The "I'm ready to dish out somemo " look!

Next time !...Crystal Lake

Conversation on the way up was "how lucky we are to be riding in late Novermber wearing shorts"

Got that at a Sport Chalet outlet store for $3,brand new, and that is not a typo. Must have been left over from about 5 seasons back, but it works. Thanks for the ride Mr. Beanz, great time as always.

Cool. Let me know when you will go up to Crystal Lake. I may join you.

I did not make it to crystal lake, but this was beyond the gates. The road is very nice up there and best of all no cars!!

Oh West Fork was beautiful two weeks ago

BigT, were the closed signs there when you went up 2 weeks ago? HB thought it would be ok but I wasn't willing to take the chance of a fine. If I even think about running a red light, I will be stopped, that's my luck so no going beyond the signs for me!
