You're favorite thing to do on a bike?
With the diverse group here, I though it would be interesting to know what your're favorite riding style is. Out their do you like to:
Spin.
Roll a big gear seated.
Climb seated.
Climb standing.
??
Just curious, there are a lot of different folks out their.
Me, I'll go with climbing while standing. Whats you're favorite.

I like spinning at a decent cadence for as much of my ride as possible. I feel like a get a more consistent workout. Flying down a hill is pretty fun though too!

2 favorites are standing climbing, and flying downhill.
But other than that 95-110 cadence for as long as possible.

Spin, and climb seated. I do better on long climbs seated than I do standing. I just stand occasionally to keep the blood flowing to the saddle regions. Oh, and the downhills after climbing.

What? Your question makes no sense. We cannot understand what you are saying.

I love blasting down the rolling terrrian in my area with a well organized and experienced group. Nothing in the world like seeing the km's fly by at 40km+ in a well oiled double paceline, if you have never experienced this thrill you have not lived. This past summer we had a particularly good group going on a lovely smooth section of pavement with a slight tailwind 55-60km/h for over 20 minutes, nothing like it in the world. After that it's riding with my brother inlaw as we just plain have fun.

Climbing? A long 20-60 mile climb while seated. I rarely stand.
Flat trail ride? A 50 or 60 miler spinning in the 39 ring the entire time. Gina often comments on how I am non stop on the pedals.
Dowhills? Pretty good on the road but only downhill or I wouldn't get home. On the MTB, ok, but nothing special. I'd rather climb than descend.
Hills or flat rides? Makes no difference, weekend rides mostly flat cuase Gina doesn't like to climb but lots of hills on the weekedays.
Scenery? I don't care. I could be on a flat desert road or in a forest with a million trees and singing birds, I wouldn't notice!
This morning...Mtn/climbing rides on weekdays
Lastweek
The week before
Weekends are flat Gina rides....40-60 miles

I like to get to a restaurant before daylight, eat a nice breakfast, start riding as the sun comes up and ride all day at an easy pace, and, not know in advance where I'm going. I just like to ride all day and see the sights.

Crashing through piles of freshly raked leaves along the street, under a blue October sky. (pisses off the raker I am sure, but it still makes me feel pretty alive
Fast flowing single track with the trees within inches of my elbows.
Standing, while zig-zagging down hill.
riding with no hands (you know, showing off for the girls
Riding with the goal of reaching a plate of biscuits & gravy
Sharing a fine brew with my biking buddies after a trail ride
These are a few of my favorite things

Not safe for work
Coasting and eating an ice cream cone
Telling squirrels to get out of the way
My fav: waving to a little boy who saluted me when I rode past. That was adorable.

Scream down a hill on a fixed gear, locked to the pedals, cranking a 250 cadence. (That's about 55 MPH, by the way)

Sure it can be either depending on context. Not sure if you ever watch TDF videos, but the commentators Phil Ligget and Paul Sherwin, often comment on the different STYLES of riding. Often comparing the standing style of lightweight riders like Marco Pantani to the style of seated style of Jan Ullrich. Plus the high cadence the high cadence style of Lance while riding both seated and standing. In the conversation, the word "style " is used several times. Hey, and they're pro commentators.

My favorite thing is to ride in the local mountains...which I did not do much this year. I was a lazy slacker. Meh. I may head up there this weekend!
The reason that I like it so much, is because I never know what to expect. The only things that are constant are how hard it is for me to drag my big butt up large hills, and how fast I fly down the other side. I love both seeing how hard I can push it before I start to blow-up on longer climbs, and screaming down twisty mountain roads. Hard and sweaty work with a sense of accomplishment at the top, followed by a pure adrenaline rush. Yepper...I like.
But I never know what I'm going to see up there. Seeing what kind of plants and flowers occur at different elevations, and how I notice the different plants and flowers in the same places during different times of year; sudden rain and snow squalls that pop-up at a moment's notice; close encounters with wildlife along the side of the road (mostly mule deer, elk, foxes, hares/rabbits, and ground squirrels; but occasionally things like bighorn sheep, bobcats, black bear, wild turkeys, grouse, many types of migratory birds, and I once rode up on a moose...); cattle and horses that sometimes get out of the fence and onto the road; all kinds of people that you see and meet up there (local ranchers, tourists - once was stopped for directions by six guys from Germany on a motorcycle trek through the Rocky Mountains, road repair crew people, hikers, other cyclists, etc.).
You just never know. It seems like something "unusual" happens on almost every single ride. I also have to say, that I've worked in the natural resources management field for a couple of decades. I used to work in the field, before I/we found out that I had an aptitude for helping biologists with computer data/statistics management. I miss field work, and riding up there before work lets me see things like cliff-swallows nesting and doing their mating dances along steep canyon walls above the river, watching the flush of spring flowers start at lower elevations in April and move up into the mountains by late-June, seeing this year's deer-fawns/calves/colts grow over the riding season, etc.
I get all of that and A LOT more just out of going for rides up into the local foothills. That is my favorite.

I am more of a big engine Jan type rider. I rarely stand and I rather push a big gear on the flats and I hardly ever shift gears on the flats. My favorite thing to do is climb and see the elevation gain.

I like going....unless I get stuck behind someone in a less then desirable passing area (there are spots where I won't pass a cyclist, but will pass jogger/walkers), then reaching my favorite spot to pass and then just going like gangbusters for a few underpasses because well....I can.
Like last night....I was "stuck" behind someone on the San Diego Creek Trail so I was drafting them until I got to my spot....and then I went and kept going all the way to the Col Barber Park where I made a pit stop...
edit - I guess I'd be a cross between Jan and Lance - Jance? Is that sacrilegious? I have no idea what my cadenance is, I go with what is comfortable. I'm almost always in 3, 4, 5 on the cluster, 6 on faster days.

Helps to ferret out the sophomoric grammar Nazis. To quote a noted writer being interviewed on NPR, "....they need to get a life.".
