Bike dilemma solved!
Well, after much contemplation about whether or not to buy a Giant Cypress bike, I've finally made a decision. As there was lots of great input from forum members, thought I'd post the outcome.
There was a practically new Cypress for sale nearby and I really thought that might be the route I'd like to go. Went to the LBS, test rode a Cypress as well as several other bikes. First to make sure that my bike was the biggest issue I was having with riding and second, to see that if a new bike was in my future, that the Cypress would be a good choice. Having looked at mostly Giant, I did check out some Treks as well. Decided the Cypress just wasn't my cup of tea. So, a no go on that idea.
I did, however, notice a huge difference in the feeling of all the bikes I rode and the bike I have at home. Not nearly as sluggish feeling, more responsive handling. I felt more in control and lighter and freer on ALL of the bikes compared to mine. And this was after much adjusting of the saddle and tire pressures (on mine). Just couldn't feel the love.
The combination of a quicker feeling ride and a more comfortable riding position and, yea, a price reduction on a last year's model bike I liked had me pretty well decided. In addition, it was the last size, color and model of this bike, so when I told them I thought that was the one for me, they took another bit off the price, which of course sealed the deal.
I'll be bringing home my new Trek 7.3 fx next week.

Anyway, just wanted to post an update and thanks again to all who gave great advice and well wishes.

Ah new bike day! Naturally because you asked us for advice you are required by forum rule 122C to post several pictures of the new bicycle. You will earn extra points if the bicycle is parked against a white garage door, cranks vertical, little ring up front, small cog in the back and action shots are worth double points. Sorry, I didn’t make the rules

Old bike is in my sig. A Schwinn Suburban. It's big, heavy and will be just fine for rides with the kids. But the new one is for my solo rides!
