    What would you like to see reviewed for the larger rider?

    I am working with a magazine, blog, and some bicycle companies to focus on products that appeal to a "wider" range of cyclists. We have a crew of clydesdales and Athenas who are going to be trying out and reviewing bunches of new gear, but we wanted to know what you want to see.
    Wheels?
    Frames?
    Shorts?
    Parts?
    Post it here and give us a better idea of what the public really wants.

    For me I'm a clydesdale because I'm tall. I would like to see clothing reviews that mention how the garments are cut, i.e. better for taller skinnier people or wider, stubbier people. The selection of "tall" cycling clothing is very sparse, but sometimes regular gear fits okay if it's cut the right way.

    Ditto for the clothes. I want to know how the sizes compare to American clothing sizes. Really, that's the big one. A European 2XL is certainly not a US 2XL. It's barely a US medium.

    I think the most common questions center around frame material, bike type, and wheels as far as equipment goes. The clothing issue ranges from sizing issues and alternatives that are functional but not the full blown roadie race kit.

    The same issues that are shared between larger riders and smaller riders exist for frame type choices. Upright?, MTB". Drop Bar? Aggressive? Relaxed? Yada Yada Yada. The difference is usually about of confidence on the part of the larger rider and overcoming apprehension about ability, social acceptance, and durability. I find it difficult at times to not offer the Roadieism of just HTFU and ride, but the fact is we all have physical, social, and emotional issues to confront when the journey begins. There is seldom an article that acknowledges these challenges and issues.

    I don't really think that "parts" are that big of a deal and bring about any issues beyond the usual rider on having knowledge of component level and performance. In the end, just about any group will do, and upgradeitis will eventually follow. If anything, an advertiser's nightmare article on not worrying about the bling factor and just get what fits your budget and goals would cool.

    For wants, articles on larger riders who are out doing the things everyone else does. Profile a local Clyde or Athena road racer, MTB'er, tourer, messenger, etc, etc. Help the target audience and the industry know there is an entire world of possibilities waiting to be discovered for both sides of the consumer / vendor equation.

    Weight loss specific training plans would be good too. So many are just out doing the JRA thing, which is awesome, but as fitness progresses targeted efforts, with doctor's approval, would be a great benefit. Eating for fuel and time effective and efficient training methods have an audience here just as they do with the racing crowd. Both groups are working toward a very targeted goal.

    Bib shorts, true test data on wheel strength in various spoke counts/configurations, Jerseys, saddles, the works.

    In short, show that heavy people can ride bikes, too.

    Reviews of clothing with some actual measurements in them, rather than just the typical 1x 2x 3x sizes would be great. Differences between manufacturers arbitrary sizing nomenclature is astonishing. I have a 2x Louis Garneu jersey that fits semi-snug, a Primal 2x that fits like a regular 'club-fit', and my Woolistic (euro sized) jerseys are 3x, and fit like the Garneau!

    I'd like to see shoe reviews for wide feet, too. I wear a triple-E shoe and it's a chore finding a cycling shoe that fits well.

    Real wheel durability reports! Not this "buy these wheels cause they are a sweet ride" after 200 miles. How about some reports with several thousands of miles!

    Nice to know your money went for a good set and not finding out those cool looking wheels only lasted 1000 miles after such a sweet review!

    I think a sticky with equipment reviews that includes a format requiring the information that's important to the Clyde audiance would be good (ie rider size/weight, how long / miles used...others?). For me performance, reliability and durability are three distinctly differenct things. I driven an old Volvo 240 for years... it's slow, get's good gas mileage, has lasted 205k miles, but sometimes decides to just not go. I would call the performance ok, the reliability low (I've learned to fix most issues with a can of contact cleaner and a few spare relays), and the durability high.

    Perhaps a form with ratings and the minimum required information?

    As it is, everyone has an opinion (much as we all have a certain bodily orifice) and we are all most happy with the one we have.

    Wow thanks everyone for the info. We are going to use this info and start to do some great reviews and also focus on some of the other great bigger riders we have out there. We are not really looking for any other reviewers right now, but I will be posting on this forum, so you can follow this for updates, etc.

    I would like to hear about tires: Which tires stand up to the extra duty imposed on them by Clydes? At what point is the performance gained by narrower tires superseded by loss of comfort; 32mm, 28mm, 25mm? Not just road tires, either - let's hear about MTB, urban, and winter (studded) tires, too!

    Guys Im the bigguy. In a few weeks a blog I have been dreaming of for a long time will be going live.Prevail24 is a buddy of mine and he is helping me out with this. We hope it will be an outlet not just for the big guys and gals who ride but for the everyday rider who isn't 140lbs twig. So please keep up the suggestions and ideas.

    For me, I would like to see more (better?) information on shorts (bibs, regular, and mountain), and jerseys. I would also include jackets in that mix. I look forward to reading what you put together.

    same here i would like to know about clothes (i have had a real problem finding a convertible jacket to fit any one bigger than a 42 -48 chest).

    saddles in categories( which brooks for style and size of rider) (which synthetic for style and size of rider)

    components, frames, accesories are always nice to hear about.

    wheels with a budget in mind what test to be good in certain price ranges( we dont all have money to burn for the best of every thing)
