My New Bike!!!

Just picked it up today. It's my first road bike and I'm really excited to get out there and start shedding some pounds. It's a 2010 Raleigh Sport. 62cm. I went looking last weekend, and I'm glad I waited because I got the 2010 model for $50 less than they wanted to sell me the 2009 model last week. Guess maybe I was talking with someone with a little more control over prices today. Plus they threw in a free inner tube and $10 off of a pump. I need to get out there and wear out the tires, because I think it would look pretty sweet with some orange ones (if I can even get orange tires?).

Now I need some padded shorts and a helmet I suppose. I just took it on short ride around my neighborhood since it's 49 degrees out, and my rear started bothering me. I think I need to angle the seat down just a hair. Anywhere to get some shorts cheap? And maybe a cool helmet? The shop wanted $50 for a pair of shorts. I was confident you guys could point me to a cheaper pair. Also on the list is a water bottle, and eventually a computer, but I need those shorts ASAP.

Nice looking ride. Congratulations! Forget shorts and go for bibs. Much more comfortable IMHO and can be picked up at reasonable prices if you shop.

Looks great. I like the color scheme.

I have 2 cheapie pairs of performance brand shorts. The are fine for now, but I can see that you get what you pay for. Funds were tight and I picked up something similar to this.

Really nice looking bike! Best of luck with it.

But, get the helmet ASAP--everything else should be 2nd on the list.

Don't get cheap shorts, get the best bibs that you can afford. This isn't the place to cut corners.

Nice bike, congrats.

nice looking bike...I like the orange.

definitely buy the helmet now, even if you have to spend ,more than you originally planned. I ended up having to try on at least 5 or 6 different helmets before I found one that fit...and it ended up being 60 bucks...seemed like a lot at the time, but then i saw some of the pricier helmets and realized I got off cheap

Snazzy bike!

I don't reccomed you buy the cheapest shorts you can find. However, if you are looking for inexpensive shorts check out www.nashbar.com.

Congratulations X 1000000!!!!

A few extra $$ spent on shorts or bib shorts will mean a few extra miles you can ride without discomfort.

And with helmets, you get what you pay for (in terms of lightness and ventalation), and it makes a big difference when you are riding for long distances in warm weather. But any modern bike helmet will protect your head about the same if you wear it.

Got a pair of shorts and a helmet today at Sports Authority. Nothing fancy, but good enough for now until my wife gives me permission to drop some $$$ on some better stuff. Next weekend is supposed to get into the upper 60s and I'm planning to hit the Suncoast Trail with some friends.

Academy has some Canari shorts and jerseys. They are about 25 bucks for the shorts.

I got a nice pair of Canari gel shorts today. Haven't had a chance to try them out on the bike yet, but the fit is comfortable.

Canari are nice. I have a couple pair that are basically tights but with an outer shell that looks like regular shorts. Love them.

Nice bike, BTW. Ride the hell out of it.
